IC-IMPACTS is the first bi-lateral research centre co-funded by the governments of India and Canada[1]. The centre is hosted by the University of Toronto, University of Alberta, and is headquartered at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. IC-IMPACTS was established in 2012 to overcome problems such as poor water quality, unsafe and unsustainable infrastructure, and poor public health from water-borne diseases, by deploying technologies in communities[1][2].
The organization brings academic researchers, government departments, industry innovators, and communities together to solve local problems. IC-IMPACTS sponsors projects to encourage the transfer of technology from laboratories to communities to improve lives of residents.
In Canada, the centre is funded by the Networks of Centres of Excellence which is a Canadian Federal Government program created by the tri-council: Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, Canadian Institute of Health Research, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council[3]. In India, the centre is funded by the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Biotechnology.
