MMA Pro Fighter is a multiplayer role-playing game developed and published by Digital Chocolate. It was released on Facebook on December 22, 2009[1].

MMA Pro Fighter has received acclaim for its role as part of a growing trend of Mixed Martial Artists turning to social media to reach their fan base and extend their audience[2].

Gameplay

[edit]

MMA Pro Fighter is a free to play role-playing game that allows players to create, customize and develop their fighters and challenge other players with the objective of reaching the top of their friends list rankings, improving their win-loss records, and beating other players in fights.

Character creation requires choosing to study multiple fighting disciplines. Available disciplines include: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, Kickboxing and Judo.

The gameplay is driven by a time mechanic. Fighters have limited attributes like stamina (for training) and health (for fighting) which recharge over time.

To level up, users can train by themselves, spar with their friends, or fight opponents to gain experience. Players also accumulate cash through in-game activities which they can spend on customizing their characters and acquiring new moves.

As users level up, more training activities, challenges and opponents become available, such as challenging the boss of the novice category “The Facebreaker.”

Fights are strictly between two players and use a fight simulation engine to determine the winner in blow-by-blow, round-by-round announcer style using developer defined moves and attributes.

Players can invite their friends to play to increase their number of sparring partners.

“Pro Points” are the virtual currency users can purchase to buy virtual items, including new techniques, personalized shorts, backgrounds, tattoo, hairstyles, and more. Digital Chocolate partnered with Offerpal to incorporate its payment solution for virtual currency[3]. Pro Points can be purchased through several payment options, such as credit card, mobile billing, pre-paid debit cards, or through completing offers from advertisers like Netflix or DirecTV[4].
