Garage is a clothing store and brand,founded in Montreal, in 1975 that primarily targets the young female demographic. With its headquarters in Montreal, and as a subsidiary of Groupe Dynamite, the head corporation, also owns Dynamite[1], a clothing brand that is aimed at a more mature age female demographic. Garage currently has locations in Canada, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar and is home to approximately 10,000 employees. [1]

[1] Both brands Garage and Dynamite, have created fictional female models to target customers.The information included about these models is everything from their lifestyle and relationships to their interests and values.This has been a powerful marketing tool used by companies so customers can identify better with the brand.[4]

Alexia is the name of the fictional model demographic Groupe Dynamite created as a source for inspiration for themselves and customers. She lives with her parents in a wealthy neighbourhood and receives a weekly allowance to buy clothes. She is outgoing, strives to act mature and loves to spend time with her friends. By creating this model it allows costumers to identify more with the brand and feel connected to it.[4]

Dynamite

Rachel, the female demographic model inspiration for Dynamite is aimed at a more mature age level. She is a fun loving, 28-year old who lives in the city and aspires to reach her career goals at her new job working at an office. Her easy going but still responsible lifestyle is geared towards a different age demographic for costumers to be able to relate.[4]

International Expansion

Groupe Dynamite brands Garage and Dynamite strive to compete at a global scale including expanding existing stores and branching out into new countries. While maintaining company’s values, an international expansion is viewed as an opportunity to cater to the ever-growing global female retail market.[2]

  • September 2015, Garage opened two shops in Saudi Arabia. On the West coast, Garage opened in Jouri Mall, and on the East coast in Jubail Mall, bringing the store count in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to 14. Both stores have reached a high level of success since opening.[2]

Employee Recognition Programs

Groupe Dynamite gives back to their employees through 4 different annual recognition programs in which they honour their top employees performance. These campaigns can be achieved by any employee positions at Garage and are competitive based on offering excelled customer service.[5]

  • Red Carpet - Judging by personal sales objective success, Garage will give $50 payouts each month to 5 employees in each district every month..[5]
  • VIP Access - Garage employees and staff teams are eligible to visit the company's headquarters in [Monteal], meet the marketing team and redesign the look of current store window display.[5]
  • Presidents Club - Store managers from individual stores based on top achieved sales targets,attend a program where the company recognizes yearly sales performances.[5]
  • GDA Gala -Based on various sales targets, the GDA gala is an even grander recognition program like the presidents club but Red Carpet employees are eligible to attend. [5]

Charity Contributions

Garage actively supports a number of charities including Big Brothers Big Sisters,Starlight, Centride, United Way, Cure foundation and the Salvation Army.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Their latest aid has gone to the local Big Brothers Big Sister charities in Montreal including a large contribution of clothing with over $1M. [3] "We want to help the Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies as much as we can and really believe in their work" says Anna Martini, President of Groupe Dynamite. "They have a huge network spanning from Canada and the USA so we wanted to make sure that our large donation gets distributed through a well-established organization like theirs. The generous donation of clothing will be collected from Dynamite and Garage store locations across Canada and the United States and will be distributed through the charity's network.[3]
