Roschier
Roschier is a Northern European law firm with offices in Finland and Sweden. The firm was founded in Helsinki 1936 by Åke Roschier-Holmberg under the name “Roschier-Holmberg Juridisk Byrå”. In 1947, the firm took on a second partner, Arne Waselius[1].
Since its early days, the firm had a focus on business law. Åke Roschier-Holmberg held the title of legal advisor to the British Embassy in Finland since the 1940s[2] and was also President of the Finnish Bar Association between 1968 and 1972[3].
Up until the 1970s, Roschier had two partners and employed anywhere from one to three associate lawyers at any given time. By the end of the 1990s, the firm had grown to approximately 60 lawyers and founded offices in Vaasa (Finland) and London (UK). The London office was closed down in 2002, but the Vaasa office remains today. The real growth spurt of the firm took place in the 2000s, when the firm recruited approximately 100 more lawyers[4].
In 2004, Roschier formed a Baltic alliance with Raidla & Partners (Estonia), Lejins, Torgans & Part-ners (Latvia) and Norcous & Partners (Lithuania)[5]. These firms changed their names to “Raidla, Lejins & Norcous in 2008[6]. The Baltic alliance was originally called RoschierRaidla, but changed its name to the RR Alliance in 2010[7]. The member firms of the alliance employ altogether 250 lawyers[8].
In 2005, Roschier established an office in Stockholm[9]. The office was headed by Axel Calissendorff, former President of the Swedish Bar Association, who today is the Senior Partner of Roschier[10]. By 2011, the Stockholm office employed some 65 lawyers[11].
In 2011, Roschier employed approximately 150 lawyers and 270 staff members in total [12]. Its annual turnover was approximately 52 million Euros[13].
Roschier is recognized in independent law firm surveys as one of the top law firms both in Finland and Sweden, servicing both domestic and international corporations that operate in the region. In 2011, the annual “Tier1 Law Firm Review” conducted by the independent research company TNS Sifo Prospera, ranked Roschier #1 in Finland, and #4 in Sweden. [14][15]. The firm is also recognized in international ranking publications, such as Chambers Europe, [16] Chambers Globa, l[17] the Legal500, [18] [19] IFLR1000, [20] and PLC Which Lawyer? [21].
