On Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Schempp-Hirth Ventus 2B Glider 2 the voting seems to have started again. Would you put in another positive vote? JMcC 16:46, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Reportedly, you were the main creator of the article Toilets in Japan. Would you consider revisiting the article, and equiping it with the new <ref> tags? Technicially, all featured articles need this, and we'll have to un-FA it if you can't provide at least a few. -- Zanimum 16:04, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I see that you have added the Ref tags to it already. Many thanks!!! -- Chris 73 | Talk
That is, by the way, one of my favourite articles. On another note, I think it's time to block Gerard Doyle. Hope you're well. --PaulWicks 21:51, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Naming issues

Chris, it might be already too late, but it seems a stupid naming dispute very much like the Gdansk affair has cost us another excellent contributor. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Lithuania/Conflict resolution... I only glanced at it, but as this has made Renata quit, I suspect it's been going on for longer. Since you have extensive experience dealing with this kind of XXXXX, could you maybe have an eye on it, and maybe—if she ever returns—help her along a little? I'm still shit-deep in this PD-USSR stuff, I just don't have the energy to tackle yet another POV nest. Lupo 08:25, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Chris,
I was wondering if you could spare the time to have a look at these. Thanks! --Fir0002 10:28, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to ask again so soon, but I've got another small set, with really minor differences, but differences I can't choose b/w! Thanks. --Fir0002 08:43, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Street Food Section

Hi Chris, I just get to know how to use the talk page not long. I hope I use it correctly. I don't think the external links I provided are not relevant. Because I know about the topic well and think the links are important to the street food sections Street Food and other food sections. Is it that once an administrator has edited the contents then I can not edit it again? I hope I can get some majority point of view on the link I provided due to my stand point of relevancy on the content with my knowledge on the topic.

What's wrong with lymphedema?

Hey Chris, I know you're the image expert around here so I thought I'd ask you to look at something. If you head over to lymphedema you can see about halfway down the page there's some excellent images. However in the bottom series, the 2 photos on the right hand side don't show up, Image:100_0587.JPG and Image:100_0583.JPG. However if I look for them it looks like they're still there. Any thoughts? Orphaned fair use image (Image:David Hasselhoff at Baywatch.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:David Hasselhoff at Baywatch.jpg. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. RE: Sea of Japan

Hello. I explained myself on the talk page with specific points which have not been sensibly countered -- the case for the consensus version (particularly given edits by other edits in recent days that seem to contradict these claims) is fairly weak. Instead of reverting related and not edits with a minimalist edit summary under this shield, please discuss on the talk page. Otherwise, I'll be back later. Quizimodo 16:28, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Question

Re: this edit - I have a question about Image:Parkinson surgery.jpg. The person who loaded it to commons has disappeared and probably won't respond to talk page questions, so I'm asking you. Do you own the copyright on it? The image page is extremely vague, and we recieved question on OTRS about it. Raul654 00:56, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

In reply to your comment on my talk page - insofar as I can tell, he does not exist on any project other than commons, and uploading that picture is (literally) the only he's ever done. On OTRS, we recieved an email from a major national publication that wishes to resuse that image, and unfortunately I don't really know what to tell them. Raul654 20:47, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

I've put up version 2 of the sparrow set I asked you about before (on my FPC subpage) and it's currently got the majority by one vote.
Now I want to make clear that you are of course under no obligation to go vote (and I certainly don't want it to seem like "hey come and support this pic") but just for the sake of determining consensus (and since you liked it when I put it up on my FPC subpage), I was wondering if you could vote here: Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/House Sparrow2? Hello, I found your image of the Keldur Iceland Earth Covered Homes. I wanted to use this in a project I am working on about green architecture. Recreation of deleted {db-attack} material and other edits

An anonymous IP 207.168.191.2, whose disparaging anti-Japanese edits you previously reverted a couple of days ago, has subsequently registered as User:Yeahsoo and begun reposting identical material (see his user contributions). He also created Kajima, which has twice been deleted after I flagged it as {{db-attack}}.

I reverted his last round of edits to Mitsubishi, Toyota, Xerox, Honda, but he has since added the material a third time. I plan on adding the {{NPOV0}} or {{comment2}} template to his talk page, but in case he's in this for the long haul I wanted to be in the position of knowing that my next round of reverts have the endorsement of others, especially at admin level. I have also contacted another administrator regarding this issue, User:Quarl (simply because he was the one who deleted the Kajima page the first time). Regards, --DeLarge 22:49, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

hi,there. I notice you do not like my edits. Well, if a article in Chinese name is created longtime ago. but Chris 73 moved it to janpanse name, and make an Chinese name redirect point to it. I have to ask why the Chinese name has to point to Japanese name. I agree you can add any your point of view NPOV on that article, but not on you can move or rename any article without any reasonable reason. So give me a reason.--Yeahsoo 19:26, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

About Kajima, I simply add the part of history, you can not deny, I did not make that history. So you call it as {{db-attack}} ? Well so articles have to be good words? even a company use slave labers including American war prisoners? And mitsubishi, honda, etc, I only add truth facts in news ok? you can not say something did happend as NPOV, You can add some good parts, say, how Kajima succeeded in the business, that is your right. Yes, I like to add some negative info of Japanese, I add same thing for Chinese and American. At least I did not add any fake info.So Japanese must be exception? No one should blaim Japanese? If so, Japan has no hope.--Yeahsoo 19:32, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Chris, I noticed you didn't revert the edits to Toyota. However, as I pointed out on User talk:Yeahsoo, in context they are not out of the ordinary, and can therefore be deleted as non-notable. They certainly don't deserve an entire section of their own; since YS failed to mention any other recalls on any other automaker's page, I think we can treat this as bad-faith edits without ourselves assuming bad faith. And his next round of reverts on any of these pages will lead to a WP:3RR violation. --DeLarge 23:24, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

A question about Image:JapaneseFuneralEnvelope.jpg

Nothing about the photo itself, I was actually just wondering if there were any places in the USA or online where these (or the wedding version) would be available for sale. Thanks! -Hoekenheef 23:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

None that I know of, sorry. I am not living in the US. Maybe the Japaneses Amazon has it (it has an English interface for some functions) -- Chris 73 | Talk 23:09, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Requesting endorsement and/or comments for the polls closed at WP:MOS-JA

Hello Chris 73,

Can you please look over the following 2 recently closed polls, related to WP:MOS-JA, and determine if I conducted them properly?....

  1. Poll: "Ogasawara Islands" instead of "Bonin Islands"
  2. Poll: "Ryūkyū" instead of "Ryukyu"

We have exhausted the regular list of impartial admins, because many of them voted on this issue. I see that you were totally uninvolved in these cases.

Although I went ahead and closed the 2 polls myself, can you look over & endorse the final results there? The 2nd poll is particularly controversial, and should have proper endorsement from an impartial admin like youself. Thank you for your cooperation.

(For full details on the controversy and background information, see Ryukyu vs. Ryūkyū (in the WP:MOS-JA talk page) and Talk:Ryukyu Islands.)--Endroit 17:46, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Deletion log Power pack (science fiction) TOO QUICK

deleted "Power pack (science fiction)" (too little merit)

Too little merit? I would disagree, I think it is debateable. Sure, it is science fiction, but it could be fleshed out to a reasonable stub at the minimum, and science fiction literature is a significant part of the culure. I don't think a few HOURS is sufficient time for debate on something to be deleted, I would have contributed some reasons to keep it, at a bare minimum. Or is there a policy you'd like to cite instead of the vague "too little merit" ?

Translation of Japanese article title?

As a major contributor to the rather excellent Toilets in Japan article (I'd heard about the use of pre-recorded flushing noises ages ago, and was pleased to see it verified), and as someone who claims a basic fluency in Japanese, I was wondering if you could do me a favour?

I'm trying to expand the Mitsubishi Motors page with a view to future GA status, and since it's already 40kB+ I plan on hiving off a couple of sections into daughter articles before I expand them any further, namely their merger with/takeover by DaimlerChrysler, and the vehicle recall cover-up scandal they were embroiled in. I can see that the latter already exists as a discreet article on the Japanese wikipedia, but I was wondering what the exact translation of "三菱リコール隠し" was? Google's translation tool says "Mitsubishi recall hiding", which I can't imagine is quite right. Feel free to reply here. --DeLarge 21:51, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Probably Mitsubishi recall cover-up. My Japanese is not good enough to say, but luckily I had a more skilled speaker at hand ;) -- Chris 73 | Talk 21:55, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
That was quick. That's fine then -- it's the most common phrase I've seen the media use when referring to it (either that or "recall cover-up scandal", but that'd probably violate NPOV). Cheers, --DeLarge 22:07, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Chris - recived a note from you that i was advertising on Wikipedia with information on Identity Intelligence, the information was an exeprt from my book and had no advertising information on it. the first time i made the page i had a link on it to the Identity Intelligence website as part of the source, when you deleted it as "advertising" i suspected that it was due to the link. i remade the page and omited the link. i read Wikipedia's terms and the information was (in my opinion) within the giudelines. would you please clarify why you thought it was an advert. Carmaz Carmaz 10:52, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

there was about 9 months of resarch for the book, it sold almost 12,000 copies in Asia. i was including only the Defenition of "Identity Intelligence". copyrights are owned fully by me - the publisher only maintains hard copy distrobution rights for Singappore and Malaysia. if you would like i can send you a pdf of the full book to review its coohesiveness. my personal credibility is defined by the mutinational clients i have worked with. how can i get you the information without clutering up you Talk page? Carmaz 11:01, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
thank you - yes. what else do i need to provide or do? one of the reasons for including it into Wikipedia is so that my staff or i do not need to continuously answer emails as to "What is Identity Intelligence". i do not need a link or anything related to advertising - but it would save time if others looking for it would find it on Wikipedia rather than our promotional website on the topic. Carmaz 11:16, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Here are some articles and news pertaining to Identity Intelligenc

hope this helps. thank you again for your efforts. Carmaz 13:16, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Citations will be forthcoming but I'm not sure what makes you think it's not noteworthy since many other "clubs" and venues are in Wikipedia, in fact: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Garage_%28night_club%29 Davumaya (talkcontribs) 11:19, 6 January 2007 (UTC).

This is a battle of perspectives, I'll assure you Britney Spears is just as important to Europe as Lordi may be to the United States (insert sarcasm). This is a matter of your opinion and you haven't shown me much else than that, I'm quite scared that I'm battling your opinion rather than valid criteria (or that you would suggest something local to your world such as Lordi is more "notable" when it is just as local as my entry). I'll try to comply as best as I can to your demands as an Administrator, but I am confident THE GARAGE is quite notable. I'd rather prove this than send you dozens of lesser notable Wiki entries to be exposed as insufficient to warrant this one. Davumaya 11:53, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Notability: "Notability is not subjective. Subjective evaluations are not relevant for determining whether a topic warrants inclusion in Wikipedia. Notability criteria do not equate to personal or biased considerations, such as: "never heard of this", "an interesting article", "topic deserves attention", "not famous enough", "very important issue", "popular", "I like it", "only of interest to [some group]", etc. Notability is not judged by Wikipedia editors directly. The inclusion of topics on Wikipedia is a reflection of whether those topics have been included in reliable published works." Based upon this I'm removing the notability clause. On your speedy deletion of Terry de la Mesa Allen, Jr.

Hi I noticed by the deletion logs that on 11:46, 6 January 2007 you speedily deleted the article on Terry de la Mesa Allen, Jr claiming that it was not notable. I’m always stunned when people zap articles that are just a few minutes old. I wasn’t even able to mark it as a stub before it vanished. I placed this article because I found a stunning gap in Wikipedia’s omission of one of the Major Generals of WWII. The guy who lead the Big Red One throughout most of the war. The stub you zapped was about his only son whose death in Vietnam shocked America because his father was such a hero. It was covered extensively at the time, I would have referenced this but you didn’t even give me two hours to do so. I’ve been trying to finish the article on his father whose absence in Wikipedia is a mark against the entire project. If you search for Terry Allen you’ll see that people have been calling for both these articles to be made for some time now, but no one has bothered to do it and that’s why I was the only contributor. Or perhaps they have been doing it and you speedily deleted them.

I created that page shortly after 10:27, 6 January 2007 and you zapped it little over an hour later at 11:46, 6 January 2007. What kind of article do you expect can be done in little over an hour? Please look at the time in the history segments before you slaughter innocent notable articles without discussion. LITTLE OVER AN HOUR – Come on how is that even fair?--Wowaconia 18:25, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

  • On notability:
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B06EED6143DF936A35753C1A9659C8B63 The new york times reviews a book about Terry Allen Jr. and the battle he died in.
http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/summary_0199-3358786_ITM review of a different book on Terry Allen Jr. and the “war at home”

He lead the American side in the Battle of Ong Thanh (where he was slain). You’ll note this battle was important enough to rank its own wiki-page and was the source for one of the books listed above (which I just found out is being made into a film by Tom Hanks).

I'm sorry I just can't get over it being zapped in little over an hour without discussion. It shakes my whole faith in this entire project.--Wowaconia 18:48, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Heres a link to the film being made about him and the battle that killed him: http://movies.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_4003.php

As per your entry on my talkpage it seems you still question whether Terry Allen Jr. is notable enough to rank a wiki-page and cite a Google search as proof of this. How does he not rank a page when there are schoolarly books out and a movie being made about his life? How is he less notable then the 5,000 articles on "The Simpsons"? Is Google count truly your measure of notability? I find that preposterous if it is - please explain yourself. Look at WP:NOT#PAPER which allows for 100 pages on poker, your telling me that a 100 pages on poker is somehow more encylopedic than a military leader because poker gets 115,000,000 google hits and you only found 300 for him? I am becoming more and more convinced that wikipedia is a shallow project that is better compared to VH1's Best Week Ever than to a real encyclopedia.--Wowaconia 19:24, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

You wrote on my talk-page “I agree that the first formulation of the AFD nomination was not proper, and a mistake on my side. But then, if you are thankful that I have revised my statement, why do you repeat it on 5+ talk pages? Two wrongs don't make a right.” It is true I included your post of 19:36, 6 January 2007 (UTC) where you wrote:
”Persons claim to fame is being the son of a famous US General. He became Lt. Col. (probably with a little help from his daddy), cockily chased some charlies in Vietnam, and got killed in the resulting ambush together with his unit. After his death he had some media coverage due to his famous daddy. Also, his wife left him for a rodeo clown. Two books available and one movie upcoming about the battle. In my opinion borderline notability at best, but as always i am willing to be convinced otherwise.”
I repeated this first post as support to my assertion that there is a bias against this article that colors the discussion on whether it should be deleted. I am thankful that you dropped that statement so that people do not have to petition to strip you of being an administer for disgustingly mocking a soldier who died serving America. I had heard of people spitting in the face of Vietnam veterans but this is the first time I’ve seen it happen to the war-dead. How is quoting you “a wrong” against you – you let your anger at being challenged get ahead of your human decency. These kind of statements would be seen as slander if they were part of a wiki-page, one had hoped that an admin would carry the idea of avoiding slander forward in all that they do – sadly this is yet another example of the flaws of wikipedia.--Wowaconia 17:36, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi,

You criticised me on this article not being "notable". I add since a reference. There are more writings around on the subject, which i may try to add. Let me know what would satisfy you. IdeasLover 21:22, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

The notability specificlly says that "Notable does NOT mean famous. The Decemberists, the Smiths, Against Me, Belle and Sebastian, Camera Obscura, and The Shins do not have grammys and have never even touched the top one hundred, yet all have uncontested wikipedia pages. the myspace references are the personal sites of band members for further exploration of the band personality, Our agent, newspaper article and venue reccomendations are all notable and valid references by the defeinition of Wikipedia's Notability Guidlines, We have multiple records, a mid west tour and 3rd pary non- trivial articles, The notability guidlines are pasted here: Notable here means "worthy of being noted"[1][2] or "attracting notice"[3], not "important" or "famous". It is not synonymous with fame or importance. It is not measured by Wikipedia editors' own subjective judgements. It is not "newsworthiness". I hope this will allow your approval of the page. ---- krkberg ---- —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ballsdeep123 (talkcontribs) 00:09, 8 January 2007 (UTC).

Chateau de Condé 2nd deletion

Dear Chris, Please help me, as I wrote at the top of the delete file, I am the copyright holder. And please have a look to this web page : Château de Condé - story which contents the proof you need : (the external website www.chateaudeconde.com belongs to me, and I want to allow Wikipedia to use the text of this page http://chateaudeconde.com/histrad2.htm — which means allowing other people to modify it — and I have already included on the external site the statement "I, Aymeri Pasté de Rochefort, am the author of this article, (Château of Condé - story), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later."")

The reliable sources are at the top of the reference page, you can see them in the delete file, once you verify them, please undelete the page, Best regards. Aymeri Pasté de Rochefort User talk:Aymeri

Institute For Independent Business deletion

Hi Chris - I'm new to Wikipedia, so please help me. Why did you delete this page? I had just added it and was in the process of adding new content. I also included a hidden message asking for grace because it was brand new. Please help. Cheers, Mark Robinson (user id: robinson_weijman) Robinson weijman 14:15, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Chris - thanks for the prompt and thorough reply. No, I am not related to the IIB though I was about 10 years ago. I'm drafting a new stub (with hopefully the correct format). As far as adding other references, e.g. articles, I'll hunt for them though maybe others will. Is there any "grace period" for new articles or are all weighted equally? Thanks again. Mark. Robinson weijman 14:31, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
It does help - thanks a lot for the reply, Chris. Cheers, Mark. Robinson weijman 14:34, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
About creating an article in your own space, it's a very good suggestion, thanks again Chris. And I see you've added a "notability" comment. Fair enough, let's see what happens. I've been searching for other articles, as you've suggested, and not come up with much else, so you may be right. Thanks again, Mark. Robinson weijman 14:48, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of All Homes article

Hi Chris, I was a bit disappointed to see the All Homes article deleted within a few minutes of its creation. I had made my first edit and was planning to add additional information, references and graphics to it shortly afterwards. I was also going to read over it again and make sure it didn't sound too much like advertising, because its intent was certainly to be encyclopeadic. I have no interest in the advertisement of All Homes. WP:CSD#G11 says: 'Note that simply having a company, product, group or service as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion'. I think this was jumped to a little too quickly in this circumstance.

Quoting from WP:UNDEL: 'If the answer to the question "would Wikipedia be a better encyclopedia with the article restored" is obviously "no", then do not request undeletion.'. I came across the fact that All Homes did not yet have an article when I was searching through Canberra suburbs on Wikipedia and looking for articles I can improve with new photos. All Homes has years of data on houses and land in Canberra and would be a great research tool for people to follow on to from Wikipedia.

Can the All Homes article be undeleted? --Tim 14:45, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the speedy reply :) - yes, if you could copy the original text into User:Tdmalone/Work/All Homes, that would be great. I'll spend some time improving it before putting it back 'out front'. Thanks. --Tim 14:53, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

James Eric article

Chris - I was disappointed to see that my article has been deleted so quickly. James Eric Laczkowski has notability and validity for being an established songwriter despite not being famous. There are a number of reasons why I chose to include an article about this artist. He has played the Jeff Buckley benefit show in 2002, and is a finalist for the International Songwriter Competition. He has had quite an impact in the world of DIY independent musicians and warrants a completed entry on Wikipedia. There are several write-ups featured on the Internet to attest to this fact. Is there something I'm missing in terms of why my page was deleted and if you could elaborate, I'd greatly appreciate your attention in this matter Anniehallwaits 15:54, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Chris - Your reply greatly helps, but I do stand-by the fact that he has done more than just release a few albums. Under the notability article, I see that one of the criteria is: Has won or placed in a major music competition. This can be validated. Also, he is listed at IMDB.com for composing a score for an independent film. This is one of many of the reasons I included him. But I'm certain that this still isn't enough to substantiate a full entry. I understand your decision and I thank you for your prompt response.
http://www.songwritingcompetition.com/rules.htm I have had an inside tip that he will be announced as a finalist in February for the contest above, however, there is no official documentation of this fact yet so there is currently no justification for an official article. When it is posted on the website above, I will try and post another article then. Anyway, it is a substantial competition. I understand why it is a borderline case, and perhaps in a year or two, his article will be placed here without any disapproval because he will definitely become a more notable musician over time. Thank you for your understanding as well.

Your hasty wikification requests

Please do not be so fast to tag new articles that are being edited (look at the history) with the wikify tag. I had done ten minutes of work on the James F. Sloan article that you just wiped out becuase of an edit conflict. Please be less hasty and reeview the history of the article before tagging articles in the future. --- Safemariner 16:17, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, its a bunch of data. Perhaps too much. But it is the point. I have edited the Thickness of Atmosphere section of Earth's Atmosphere showing some interesting facts about it. After some time it has been marked as "unreferenced". As no article (i am aware of) reveals this facts i decided to post the original data wich support those claims. If this kind of pages could not be created, how or where should the data and the proof of facts be posted? Sorry if this creates inconvenience to you but i believe this info is relevant and useful to people. So, this is in no means vandalism. Sorry, its just the true intention!

The formulas ARE in the page. As previously asked: "where or how" this kind of data should be posted?. Remember: It's easy to ban, correct, "point the finger". It's hard to create new ideas. Would you help?

Marking articles with the ((notability)) tag

Hi Chris 73. You marked Sister Spit with the above tag ([2]). I've removed it, as the article contained sufficient references to meet the requirements of WP:MUSIC, the criteria for notability for article topics of this type. Proto:: 20:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

You are free to do whatever you like. I will remove the notability tag in a little while when I add some more references to the aricle. Proto:: 20:47, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
I have discussed this further in the AFD you decided to start. I told you I was editing the article to add more references, you should have held off on the AFD until then. Proto:: 21:26, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

I have no idea why you keep removing the the entry for "Peacehealth". It is all original, verifiable content. Please let me know how to proceed. Thanks. tjthaxton@aol.com (by User:Tjthaxton)

Re: PeaceHealth. Thanks for the prompt feedback Chris. I would happy to make any changes in the text that would satisfy your criteria, however, again, I believe every sentence to be original content.
Regarding notability, I would be happy to forward the article written last month in the U.S congressional newspaper "The Hill", by former House Speaker Gingrich, or the article written in Hospital and Health Networks magazine, or the many other relaible articles/sources (including the major Oregon and National newspapers and research journals). Again, please let me know what would satisfy the requirements regarding relevent criteria for determining originality and notability. Thanks, I appreciate your help with this matter as I have obviously spent considerable time developing this article today. (by User:Tjthaxton)

Hi, I've just posted a slightly intemperate rant to AN/I discussing my inability to get anyone to block our friend. I've just noticed you're an admin and you're blocking the accounts he uses - is there any chance of a block on the IP address he's currently using, 220.233.226.170? Please? I'll beg if you like.
