DYK good news

[edit]

I see that you have articles in back to back Did You Know queues! The Heidelberg Raceway article should appear at about 10pm Chicago time and the second one for Rex White should appear at about 4am Chicago time. A nominated an image of White's NASCAR car which will be pictured beside your expansion - you got the precious top spot! I uploaded that picture from a flickr friend and I already notified him. I might do the 10pm update (I'll get someone else to credit me for the article). I suggest that you record a list your Did You Know articles - I like how some people keep the hooks. You might want to add {{User Did You Know2}} to you userpage. I'm very proud to say that I started that template (diff) to tally my DYK articles and it has achieved widespread usage. note: didn't really do much for this one .. just a bit of copy editing — Ched :  ?  18:51, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
  • First, full credit for article contributions and improvements must go to TechOutsider. Given that my actual contributions are not particularly notable, I would like to think that my contributions in talk pages, peer reviews, GAR comments, and editor assistance did help get this article to GA status.
  • Primary work was done by User:Royalbroil, but he pulled me in to research, copyedit, expand, and reference, encouraged me to help, and showed me how things work. After sitting for almost a month in request, it was finally reviewed, we addressed the issues, and it's now a GA

  • Worked with User:BarkingMoon on this. I still have strong emotional attachments to it.

Nascar notes:

NASCAR seasons that need created

  • Tier I: 1956, 1958, 1962, 1964, 1967, 1968, 1969
  • Tier II: 1984 - 87,
  • Tier III:
  • Convertible - all seasons
  • DAB: 1985

Going through articles and checking that all pages linked there have wikidata short description wikidata - add Wikipedia:Short description to links in following articles, also a lot of knife/weapon articles, some tennis, legal documents, etc.

see: {{short description}} ex: 1960 NASCAR Grand National Series

I've also started going through various sports teams seasons from their first season through 2020 to make sure they have a {{short description}}. A couple teams had their first years already done, and as I spot checked each decade, it seems their entire history had the SD already added. It's possible I missed a few, and I've noted that they were done by others. As of this writing I've completed all the active NFL teams (for each year) and started on the NHL hockey articles.

These are the NFL teams I've done:

  • Actually this has become far too expansive to keep a detailed list. Some of the things I've worked on include pages in sports (NASCAR, NFL, NHL, MLB) and various seasons; including teams (Steelers, Penguins). I have and am also going through Movies, Comics (DC and Marvel), Sci-Fi (Star Trek, Star Wars), Philosophy, a few Medical articles, a lot of UK books, movies, actors, directors, producers, etc.. I've found list pages to be helpful in going through a large group of pages with a similar theme. As of the April 2021 I'm estimating I've touched over 30,000+ articles for short description. I haven't been too concerned about internal pages (projects, portals, WP:anything, drafts, etc.). This effort may not improve content much, it's a rather tedious and thankless task, but apparently it's something that we've agreed to do because it helps the accessibility for users on smaller devices; such as tablets and phones. I dedicate a lot of this to a wiki-friend who's no longer editing, and that is thanks to one individual and the group that's supposed to defend and support our project: Arbcom 2021. Here's to RexxS. Thank you for all you have given us.

Notes

[edit]
  1. ^ Film articles now pull information automatically from the {{Infobox film}}

Movies, +plot/cast

[edit]

A LOT of our film articles don't have plots or cast members included - so from time to time I try to fix that. These are a few I've done since early 2021. Some of them, especially the early ones, are just a brief synopsis of the film. This is usually either because the film is either unavailable for me to watch, and/or has little note in my reference material. Other films, usually the later ones, are more detailed plots.

WP:NPP (back in the old 2008 days), also tried a little WP:AIV, WP:RFPP, WP:REFUND just to get a feel for what they were and how they worked. Most of that I did when I first got admin. bits. Did a bit of the merge stuff too - but it's more complex than I wanted to work on. I tried to work a bit on Stargate - SG 1 way back when, but soon learned that they don't keep individual articles for each episode (Star Trek does). I put a lot of hard hours into trying to work on the Larry Sanger article, but the resistance there wasn't worth the arguments.
