About me

[edit]

I'm a high school student who lives in the Pacific Northwest. With that in mind, it may be noteworthy to mention I'm also an avid lover of dark, cloudy, and rainy weather (not so much a fan of driving in it). There is nothing I enjoy more than getting cozy inside and watching a movie or reading a book by the fire. I'm a book fanatic for mainly young adult fiction, preferably romance or dystopian novels. My favorite comfort movie is Coraline, most famous because of it's similarity to Tim Burton's "Nightmare before Christmas", but in actuality was written and directed by Henry Selick (Tim Burton took no part in the creation of the Coraline film)[1]. I own a pit bull-mastiff, she is a sweet addition to my family. I hope to adopt a cat as well in the foreseeable future!

My Wikipedia Interests

[edit]

If I'm active on Wikipedia in the future, I'll probably utilize it for my personal endeavors. For example, at the moment I'm interested in business; Wikipedia may be a gateway source in research for many ways to be successful in business. I've learned that Wikipedia can be quite useful for finding reliable sources, if used wisely.[2] If I partake in being a volunteer for Wikipedia, I would hope to make a difference by fixing minor or major mistakes made in articles. By doing so, it can affect the overall view of Wikipedia. Considering Wikipedia is known for it being written in a neutral point-of-view,[3] I would definitely be one to remove unfair ideas represented in articles. There's no harm in making Wikipedia a better place for people to navigate, research and brainstorm new ideas!

Article evaluation

[edit]

I have much respect for performing arts, as I participated in it for a bit when I was younger. I recall a time I was invited to see a performance by a local improv theater near me. It was fantastic! I want Wikipedia's presentation of it to do justice, so with that in mind, I visited the Jet City Improv page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: it's age not being up to date, it's lack of completeness, and it's notability.

Age

[edit]

Age is an important factor when it comes to evaluating any article. As for the Jet City Improv page, I see that it has not been updated in quite a while. At the bottom of the page, it states it was last updated April 29, 2020. Though after viewing the sources at the bottom, the most recent date was from 2005. There is no information that is from more recent years, which may affect how this article is viewed. I tried to give this factor the benefit of doubt and think "maybe there has been no coverage or new information from recent years", though after a quick search, I found a news article from November of 2019 that stated Jet City Improv would be demolished to make way for an apartment building and that they will be in search for a new building to occupy. I find that to be important, yet it's not mentioned on this page.

Completeness

[edit]

The Jet City Improv page gives information on the classes they offer. I have reason to believe some information given is incorrect. In the "Education programming" section, it states that "classes are held every quarter of the year, and run for eight to twelve week sessions". However, the Jet City Improv website only lists six week long sessions. This may be information that has changed since COVID-19 hit, as it affected the hours and way that many businesses would be run due to new regulations and guidelines to abide by. Though, this is still an aspect worth noting while evaluating this article.

Notability

[edit]

The Jet City Improv page seemingly has much information posted, such as history and events that occurred. Though, not every "fact" or piece of information stated has been cited with a source to ensure that what may have happened, actually happened. It has come to my attention that maybe this page has not received enough significant coverage to allow the Jet City Improv to have it's own stand-alone page. I believe this theatre should receive recognition, though it may work better if grouped or merged into similar topics as one article altogether.

Summary

[edit]

All in all, after reviewing the contents of this article, I rate it as "decent". It has much room for improvement, and if small changes were made to this page, I think that it could turn out to be significantly better. Not every piece of information posted was cited, making it difficult to determine whether what's stated is true or not. A piece information posted was also proven to be incorrect, or not up to date at least which makes it more challenging for viewers to understand or grasp information that is true and reliable regarding Jet City Improv. This page seems to not be a reliable or true source for the Jet City Improv company.
