a downloaded book on Howrah
[edit]This 1909 gazetteer compiled by one ICS officer and one PCS officer might interest you. It is downloadable from this link: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=Howrah&server=se. It is in PDF format and has 208 pages. You may need latest Adobe Acrobat (9.0.0 or higher) to read this. Cheers and keep up the good work. --GDibyendu (talk) 07:33, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- Search for Bator. Betor is the anglicized name of it. Though there is no separate town with this name now, there is a neighbourhood with this name in Howrah. Other areas under the old Bator probably are known by new names now.--GDibyendu (talk) 06:31, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
DYK
[edit]Hi Chandan, thanks for contributing to DYK. Just FYI, to nominate an article for DYK you must make your nomination at Template talk:Did you know (T:TDYK for short); you edited Template:DYKsug/doc, which is a page of instructions. You can nominate your article by going to T:TDYK, moving down to the subsection for the appropriate date, and editing it to add the following text:
{{subst:DYKsug | article = Dhaniakhali | hook = ... that the weavers of '''[[Dhaniakhali]]''' have been facing financial problems because they are not being paid in time by the state government-run emporia, who are the main buyers of textiles produced there? | creator = Chandan Guha }}
You may also want to shorten and copyedit the proposed hook a bit. Best, Politizer talk/contribs 05:50, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- Again: please do not edit Template:DYKsug/doc, as you did in this edit. To nominate your article, make your edit at Template talk:Did you know. Politizer talk/contribs 06:08, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- It's easy as user Politizer has explained. Go to that page, you will see many DYK nominations arranged for every date. You can add your entry by going to January 31 section and editing that to add it as the topmost entry. For the hook (it has a word limit on displayed text), I would suggest another two (you can go for either or add them there as alternate hooks and let the guy who pics DYK entries choose between the hooks): "...that there is a type of sari named after the Dhaniakhali block in West Bengal, where it is made?". Or, "...that every household in Dhaniakhali block of West Bengal has at least one loom, where handloom saris are made?" I would suggest that you add there, I am keeping an watch, if there is any error, I will help fixing it there.--GDibyendu (talk) 09:06, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, among the articles on West Bengal districts, this one is in better shape. The guys who worked on this page, are not active in WP anymore. So, I am planning to work on this to make it GA at least. But, it will take a lot of time if I have to do it alone. Also, a lot of inline citations are needed. It will be great if you can spend some time on improving the article, whatever way you can. Thanks.--GDibyendu (talk) 13:24, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. I don't have much access to related books. So, referencing work, that you are doing among other things, will be of great help in improving the article. Thanks.--GDibyendu (talk) 17:02, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Some more work is suggested in GA review. I'll take a look later today. Thanks.--GDibyendu (talk) 05:27, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Anon's edit
[edit]Is this a good or bad edit? I don't know much about Chinese politics, so is this vandalism, political bias, or a good edit? I'm sorry for the question, because I am a rookie in English Wikipedia. Nice to give a message to an Indian wikipedian.

metric system?
[edit]like Acre?--GDibyendu (talk) 11:46, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
BTW, I am through with whatever I could. Two references and this acre thing is remaining. As such acre is used in one place, and it has multiple definitions across India. Once you are sure about the prevalent definition in West Bengal, then you can just remove it and use one of the templates convert or 'km2 to mi2' to replace that info. Thanks. --GDibyendu (talk) 16:22, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. Will mark whatever is done as done. But, if you think something more is needed, please go ahead. BTW, the box on Education facilities looks good to me. Thanks,--GDibyendu (talk) 13:57, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your hard work on Birbhum District. Following an excellent copyedit on the suggestions provided, I have now passed this article as a Good article, and updated the various talk page templates to reflect this.
That also means you get one of these:
This user helped promote Birbhum District to good article status. |
which you may like to place on your user page (or somewhere suitable) by copy/pasting {{User Good Article|Birbhum District}} into the page code.
Great job - well done! SBC-YPR (talk) 04:14, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Making of Baluchari Sari.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Making of Baluchari Sari.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

For your excellent work on Indian geography and efforts to improve article quality on important articles. You are invited to collaborate on articles with myself and User:Nvvchar. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:11, 9 May 2010 (UTC) |
Nvvchar and myself regularly write articles like Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, Dal Lake, Manas River etc. You are most welcome to collaborate with us. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:12, 9 May 2010 (UTC) Is it only Indian rivers you work on or are you interested in say Bhutan too. I stubbed Kuri Chhu earlier. You are welcome to help work on it and nominate it for a DYK. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:12, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Beautiful work! Well done! Thanks for creating the Bhutan hydrology template too! Dr. Blofeld White cat 08:17, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Excellent. I'll see if I can add something, you've done a pretty good job already! Dr. Blofeld White cat 08:42, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
One thing. I've noticed you use a lot of WP:PEACOCK words like "magnificent", "impressive", "spectacular", "beautiful" etc. These words are not advised for an encyclopedia because they are subjective words and may affect WP:NPOV. If when you write articles you could try to avoid this, this would be great. Also, I don't know whether you know this but google books is always a good place to look for sources too... Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:13, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I mean we "know" they are very impressive or beautiful, Bhutan and much of northern India is beautiful but try to avoid the cliche expressions, that's all. One other thing, if you use formal reference citations which give the author, url, title, publisher, url, date etc this would be great. I'll fill them out for Paro chhu, if you could follow the example on future articles this would be "spiffing". Keep up the great work.09:24, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Mmm small problem. The only hook I can think of is about the three chortens. But if I nominate it, somebody will question the reliability of the tourist site used to reference it.. Could you find a stronger source to support it, maybe in google books or something? Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:53, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
We're in luck. I already added that Negi source anyway, but I have a book on Bhutan and Chhuzom is covered on page 160. I've co nominated it now for a hook! Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:13, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi I made a map of the Brahmaputra. It is only a section but shows a number of tributaries. I thought it might be useful for any of your river articles. You could label the river in the given article on the map, I can do that for you if you want it. I'll have to see a google or other map of the river though to identify it, I can make different maps for different parts of the river system too.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:33, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

- I cannot reply on your talk page because you prefer to remain an anonymous editor. Therefore, I am replying here only. The fact that you contribute substantially to Wikipedia but prefer to remain anonymous and do not want to follow the procedures practised in Wikipedia raises doubts about your objectives. My comments about Bhurshut are there on the Bhurshut talk page. Ragib is a well respected administrator in Wikipedia and has contributed enormously here. Why did editor Moonriddengirl ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Moonriddengirl#Bhurshut ) delete the rewritten post which had no copyright problem? Elsewhere you say there is no issues if the article was rewritten and so was it done to avoid any possible copyright violation. It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. Buddhist Monastaries in Bhutan
[edit]Perhaps this template which you created should be changed to "Buddhist Monastaries and Temples in Bhutan". Many of the "monastaries" to which it has been applied are not in fact monastaries since no monks reside there. There are many Buddhist temples in Bhutan (especially those of the Nyingma tradition) which are looked after by lay priests, Gomchens or their family members ~ and not by monks.

What you need is...
[edit]Hello, a template Infobox Indian Constituency would be good idea rather than the cobbled one you are using; could be used for LS as well, have a look at Template:Infobox Australian Electorate, decide what fields you want and it should be easy; I can't do but we can find someone who can. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 09:01, 11 January 2011 (UTC)).
A request
[edit]Hi,
I have a request for you. Could you help to fix the article on Pankaj Mullick?
Thanks,

Redirects
[edit]Hi. I see you have been requesting the deletion of some redirects after you have moved articles, eg Manickchak. However, such redirects are useful for people searching for topics who might not know the full title you have chosen. And in some cases, they are already linked from elsewhere and deleting the redirect will break links. For these reasons, I think the redirects should be kept, so I will be declining your deletion requests. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:10, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
Congratulations on promoting the afore -mentioned article to Good Article status. But after an article is promoted to GA status, please do not forget to add the {{Good article}} template on top of the page (especially if you have helped promoting it!) to avoid confusion and to also categorise them. Happy Editing! GaneshBhakt (talk) 12:40, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Chandan Guha
[edit]Hi again! According to this link, you are an Autopatroller and Reviewer on Wikipedia. But, please not that once you are given such responsibilities, you are expected to add the following templates to your User Page:
- {{Autopatrolled}} – a top icon template to indicate you have the autopatrolled user right.
- {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} – a userbox template to indicate you have the autopatrolled user right.
- {{User wikipedia/Reviewer}} – Userbox to show reviewer status
- {{Reviewer topicon}} – Topicon to show reviewer status
Please be kind enough to add these templates. Cheers. GaneshBhakt (talk) 16:44, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Cluster of Temples.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Cluster of Temples.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T/C) 13:28, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

What do you say? Do leave a talkback after you respond! Avenue X at Cicero (talk) 19:12, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Hasanpur (Vidhan Sabha constituency)
