User:ChallengingAnthropocentrism
University student majoring in anthropology. I will be monitoring and editing primate related articles that use the old terminology of "ape", "monkey", and "simian" to exclude humans and correct it to include humans. Humans are apes. Apes are a subset of Old World monkeys, and monkeys in general are "simians" or "Anthropoids." As my focus is on primates I will only monitor and focus on articles in relation to biology and taxonomy that includes mentioning of humans and ensure that there are no anthropocentric biases in said articles or any misuse of terminologies (i.e. using "ape" to exclude humans as in "apes and humans" or placing humans above all other primates or mammals in taxonomic trees to represent primates or mammals). Humans are the only crown species in genus Homo and do not need to be over represented. Any article that separates humans from animals in an academic or common use sense unless paired with primates will be left alone, but I remain critical of any institution that separates man from nature. I highly recommend that Wikipedia switch from terms like "in animals" and "in humans" sections in articles to condense the humans section under animals. We're not another kingdom like plants so its redundant. You just need an asterisk to note if humans behave or complete an action either naturally or artificially.
