Egypt's National Fungus Day
Egypt considered the cradle of mycology as ancient Egyptians documented mushrooms on walls and pillars of temples, within hieroglyphic texts, ear studs and medical prescriptions (1). In 2014 and 2016 Ahmed M. Abdel-Azeem (Egyptian mycologist at Botany Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University) and the founder of Arab Society for Fungal Conservation (ASFC) proposed a good candidate for celebration of Egypt’s National Fungus Day on the 20th of February (2). In 2016, Abdel-Azeem with the help of international societies, agencies and mycologists decreed the Egypt’s National Fungus Day for the first time in Bibliotheca Alexandrina in the 20th of February(3).
