The Danube and Black Sea Railway (Turkish: Tuna-Karadeniz Demiryolu), abbreviated as the DBSR, was an Ottoman railway company operating in Dobruja (present-day Romania) from 1857 to 1882. The 65.34 km (40.60 mi) long railway ran from Köstence, on the Black Sea, to Boğazköy, on the Danube. Established on 2 September 1857, the railway was completed in three years and opened on 4 October 1860, making it the third oldest railway line in the Ottoman Empire, as well as the third oldest railway in present-day Romania. Following the Turkish defeat in the Russo-Turkish War in 1878, the Ottomans ceded Dobruja to the newly-independent Romanian Principalities, thus the DBSR fell under Romanian control. The railway continued to operate as a private company until 1882, when the newly established Romanian Railways bought the DBSR for 1.56 million francs (approx. $8.74 million in 2023), thus nationalizing the railway line.
