Old proposal

The Articles for Creation process allows unregistered users, who are barred from creating non-talk pages, to submit articles as talk pages in a guided way, and with ultimately an experienced user choosing to move the page to mainspace or not. Inexperienced registered users may also choose to use this process, and are encouraged to do so, although this is not mandatory. The technically required use of talk pages for this purpose is frequently considered cumbersome, as has been previously discussed.[1][2] Furthermore, the Wikimedia Foundation is likely to substantially alter the way talk pages work in the future,[3] which would presumably make this mechanism even more cumbersome, or no longer possible altogether.

On the other hand, the incubation process aims to provide a space where articles that have been deemed unsuitable for mainspace by the Articles for Deletion process but may become suitable in the future (such as future or speculative projects) can be moved to and worked on collaboratively, until they are deemed suitable for mainspace. In addition, the WikiProject Abandoned Drafts is intended to provide a way for user drafts of inactive users to become edited collaboratively with the goal of moving them to mainspace, other initiatives with similar goals have been put forward.[4] For various reasons, a draft or sandbox or temp page is also occasionally created specifically for an established article as talk subpages, which also can be suboptimal and should the talk page system be modified, may become no longer possible, this can pose attribution issues as well.
