The Ceará Cangaceiros, also known as FIC Ceará Cangaceiros, FIC Cangaceiros, Cangaceiros or Cangaço, are an american football team based in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. They are the oldest american football team from the brazillian North-Northeast.
History
[edit]Early years
[edit]The team was established in 2002, by a group of friends who wanted to play american football. The team's name came from the cangaceiros, a group of northeastern social bandits in the early XX Century. Because of lack of support, they trained in small soccer pitches in Fortaleza suburb. After a long training in these conditions, the chairman of Ceará Sporting Club, Eugênio Rabelo, decided to support the team, ceding the club's stadium for the Cangaceiros' trainings.
In this time, the Cangaço only existed for will of the players, because they were the unique team of the North-Northeast of Brazil, and they were unable to travel to other regions to play football, and they just played friendly matches against amateur teams.
The FIC years
[edit]After a few years training on the Ceará SC "sponsor", they made an agreement with the Faculdade Integrada do Ceará, or FIC, a university based in Fortaleza. So, they began training in the field of university and play games there. At that time, there were other teams established in North-Northeast, and they began to play against these teams, winning all the games.
in 2008, was helded the first NE Bowl, with participating teams from 3 northeastern states, and the Cangaceiros was the champion of the tournament. Despite being the oldest team of the region, this is the only championship won by Cangaceiros. They also were the runners-up of the Taça Fortaleza, a competition helded in Fortaleza in 2009 with teams only from the city. They lost the final game to the Dragões do Mar.
They currently playing in th CE Bowl I, first american football competition of Ceará state.
Kits and Logo
[edit]The Cangaceiros' uniforms consist of white shirts with details in brown, black trousers and white socks. They play with no pads.
The Cangaceiros' logo consist of a brown-contourned white shield with the scripts Ceará Cangaceiros in brown and the team's motto down the club's name. The old logo was a black football player head wearing a brown cangaceiro hat.
