Pierre Cavalan

[edit]

is a contemporary jeweller known for his witty collage and asemblages of found objects.

Biography

[edit]

Pierre Jack Michel Cavalan was born in Paris, in 1954. After studying jewellery at haute ecole de Joaillerie formally known as BJO, left Paris after his diploma, travelled extensively through Asia, and north America. Pierre arrived in Australia in december 1973, three days before Cyclone Tracy.

Finding his medium in the mid 1970’s within the rigorous confines of traditional jewellery, Pierre Cavalan began to explore narrative within his medium. By insinuating found objects, badges and cutlery into his forms he managed to create subtly aesthetic wearable political statements.[1]

He quickly gained recognition for his ability to create unique and unconventional pieces. His early works were characterized by intricate designs and meticulous craftsmanship, which earned him a reputation as a skilled artisan. In 1996, he was awarded an Australia Council for the arts grant to travel to America at the 18th street art center
