The MV Eleni P was a Liberian-flagged Greek owned bulk carrier that was captured by Somali pirates on May 12, 2010, and released on December 11.[1][2] It is operated by Eurobulk Ltd.[3]

Characteristics

The bulk carrier was built in 1997.[4] It has a summer deadweight tonnage of 72,119 tons, gross tonnage of 37,707 tons, a length of 224 meters, and a beam of 32 meters.[4] It displays a flag of convenience under Liberia.[4][1]

Hijacking

On May 12, 2010, the MV Eleni P was hijacked 250 nautical miles off the coast of Oman by Somali pirates while en route to Kandla, Gujarat, India.[2][5] It was reported that all crewmen were safe during the hijacking, and it was unknown if any ransom was to be paid.[2][3]
