Titanic: A Man-Made Disaster A book written by Catherine Sarah-Jane Cave

100 years ago in 1912 the grandest ship in the world was built. No expense was spared in her construction. 10th April 1912 she left Southampton, England heading for New York, United States of America. Out in the Atlantic Ocean she hits an iceberg and sinks, leaving 1500 souls to die.

This was not a natural disaster. Problems with the materials used in construction, the speed in which she was travelling, lack of binoculars, wrong orders given, lack of lifeboats caused these people to die. Out of 2208 souls on board less than 710 were saved.

There is something about the Titanic, the way the drama played out on board, the mystery, the individual stories that has ensured the story has resonated in time. The story will be alive long after the ships superstructure has collapsed in on itself, leaving very little remains of such a beautiful ship.
