[edit]

The city of Roca is a village South of Lincoln in Lancaster County, Nebraska. Roca was established in 1876 by two families that owned farms surrounding the village town. The initial economic activity in the village was mining where the name Roca was coined from extensive limestone rocks that were available in the village. Roca's other early economic activities were livestock and grain shipping. The town currently has a population of 326 with an area of about 0.14 square miles. Roca neighbors various communities that seem to share public facilities such as schools. The city's public schools are highly rated with extensive support from village members. Residents of Roca enjoy a rural feeling and a safe place to raise their families. The majority of residents residing in the village own homes and only about 1% of the population leaves below the federal poverty line. Today, the quarry is used as the village's shopping headquarter and the elevator has been turned to a major business principle. The city has several business activities and has a great potential of becoming one of the top-rated cities in Nebraska. About 97% of the village's population are whites and the rest is occupied by other races. Roca has a low population density of 2083 people per square mile.
