This is the alternative account for my main account, which is phillipbarcio.
I created this account to address misunderstandings with have arisen in the past with Wikipedia editors about my past articles and edits.
I have been a professional arts journalist for 13 years. During that time I have made friends or become associates with hundreds of artists. My main wikipedia activity consists of bolstering, correcting, or creating pages for the artists I have come to know as noteworthy and important. Most of these artists work in the commercial or public realm. When I have a free day, I add significant exhibitions, publications, and bodies of work to their wikipedia pages.
I also frequently do freelance work for museums (such as the Smithsonian) and commercial art galleries. I never edit or create wikipedia pages for pay. But because of my associations with commercial entities, I understand why my wikipedia edits have often been targeted by editors who accuse the work of being done in exchange for compensation.
I am disclosing these facts because I want it to be clearly understood that none of my wikipedia work is done for pay. Yes, I do wikipedia edits for artists for whom I also sometimes provide professional services. But these two activities are separate. I make every attempt in my wikipedia edits to be completely neutral, and to only add content that, in my professional opinion, I deem notable and important, and to only remove or re-write content that I deem unimportant or unrelated to the topic being discussed in the article.
Finally, I also do wikipedia work for my family members, many of whom happen to be notable within their fields. I have created pages for my mother (who is deceased), and my father (who is elderly). My wife is a notable artist as well. I noticed today that her wikipedia page is poorly written, and has warnings on it. I felt compelled to make this alternative account at this time specifically so that I can fix her page with neutral, verifiable, notable content. As far as I can tell, being related to a notable person and editing their wikipedia page is not a conflict of interest as long as the work is neutral, verifiable, and notable.
It is my hope that this user profile page will be understood an an invitation to help me correct any mistake I make in this regard.
Rather than simply reverting my edits or additions and making false accusations based on preconceptions and prejudices, which is what editors have frequently done to my work in the past, I hope that going forward editors will kindly converse with me about their concerns about my work so that I can learn to be a better wikipedia editor.
