Shamra is a Pop Rock quintet from the NY/NJ/CT tristate area, active 1999 - present, known primarily from their 2003 placement of the band's DIY "eight-track" recording Paper Umbrella in the globally syndicated TV show Dawson's Creek. [1] [2] With frontwoman Carrie Bolger's airy and energetic delivery, [3] the group found success in licensing its works to MTV [4] and was an influential presence on the NY/NJ club scene, [1] playing their uniquely refined artful pop metaphorics before crowds at clubs such as CBGB and Pianos, [1] along with more intimate performances in coffee shops and cafes. Shamra released three LPs, including their debut effort Whatever Fits in 2003, their follow-up Frieze which arrived in 2004, [1] and 2024's self-titled Shamra, a collection of remastered and previously unreleased songs. [5] Band members include guitarist/bassist/vocalist/writer/producer Carrie Bolger (a.k.a. Charlie Kindred, Chaz Static, Shamra,) guitarist/stringed instrumentalist/bassist/writer/producer/engineer Joseph Cannone (a.k.a. Joe Cannone, Joe Canon, Joe Cannon, Shamra, Julio Poet, The One Called Joseph) guitarist/stringed instrumentalist/bassist/writer/producer/engineer Henry Borovitz (a.k.a. Henry Frost, Toppy Frost, VsShade, Shamra, The Ropes, R_Missing,) drummer Bob Fontana, bassist Kristjan Karu, previous bassist Mimi Engles, [1] and previous bassist Sarah Bolger.
