What made the Jewish community of Amsterdam unique and different from Jewish communities of earlier times or other places?
I chose to improve the article "Portuguese Synagogue (Amsterdam)" on WikiPedia because I think that the Portuguese Synagogue that was created in 1675, also known as the Esnoga, is an important historical figure that made the Jewish community in Amsterdam unlike many others. Synagogues are important buildings for assembly and congregation of Jews and are a place where people meet for worship and interaction. I want to improve this article because the Portuguese Synagogue was an important structure to the Sephardic community in Amsterdam and contributed to the uniqueness of this Jewish community. This article does not cite any any sources, so I will improve the article by providing scholarly sources and referring back to them to provide citations and evidence. In addition, I plan on improving this article by including information about synagogues in general and the historical importance of them. I will write about the community of Amsterdam and the people, places, and traditions that are present because this article does not give any facts about Amsterdam as a city.
Sources I will use:

Hebrews of the Portuguese Nation: Converses and Community in Early Modern Amsterdam by Miriam Bodian
