Gene is the fundamental heredity unit for living organisms, and it is line of a chimical subunits in DNA. The completment of gene in an organism is known as a genome, which is saved in chromosomes. Also, every single human being has two pair of gene from each parent.

Patau syndrome is related to disease caused by modification in the number or for the structure mutation of chromosomes. This syndome could manifest in different characteristics such as severe mental retardation, multiple malformations, eye malformations, and many other factors. Patau syndome is also known as Trisomy 13, and parental age is one element which can be related. Usually, parents of children with Trisomy 13 are older than parents who have normal children. However, mother who is in old age can be exposed to the risk of child with malformation.

Disease Caused

- Mutation Chromosomes

- Extra genetic material from Chromosome 13

- Mental retardation

- Multiple malformations

- Eye malformation

Trisomy 13i

- Parential age

- Nondisjunction during Meosis

Affecting the people

- 1 in 10,000

- 1 in 21,700 live births

Patau Syndrome is known also as a Trisomy 13 because instead of having two copies of chromosome, it has three copies. Parent’s age is the primary element we know which can be associated with this very important syndrome. As a result, the number of chromosomes in a person is 47 rather than 46, which is the normal number of chromosomes. As a most of the time disorders is about the numbers of chromosomes, also the Patau Syndrome comes from number of chromosome, but this time comes from a mother side. As a consequence automatically a born children will have three chromosomes instead of two.

The percentages of survives to this sickness is very low and is different from female to male. Usually touch kids very young, actually just born, and usually they die at the beginning of their life. In some occasion, they live about a year before to die. Only one on ten thousand born children have a Patau Syndrome, but it can be fatal. This syndrome can involve many problems in different organs, which can cause death.

The most important characteristics about this syndrome are problems such as late bloomer, mentally disabled, multiple malformation, cardiopathy, and kidneys abnormalities. Also, most common physical signs for the Patau Syndrome are signs such as decreasing of muscles tone, small hands, small ears, small head and mouth, wide and short hands with short finger. First of all, physical development for kids affect by Patau Syndrome is slowly than children with not Patau syndrome. However, kid with slow physical development should still have a regular physical activity, even though it might take more time fro them to develop the muscles tone.
