From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an initial listing of the bronze portrait medallions produced by the French sculptor David d'Angers (1788–1856), with the entries drawn from Les Médaillons de David d'Angers (1867). The intention is to supplement and annotate the list with information obtained from the more recent work The Portrait Medallions of David d'Angers: An Illustrated Catalogue of David's Contemporary and Retrospective Portraits in Bronze (J. G. Reinis, Polymath Press, 1999, 493pp).

The following are the medallions listed in the 'Tables des planches' index to the 1867 work. There are a total of 53 planches with 9 entries each, giving a total of 477 entries listed in the 1867 work. Some individuals are listed more than once. The 1867 work (authored by the sculptor's son) gives brief biographical details, aiding identification of the subject of the medallion. The 1999 work gives more detailed biographies, and include the then-known locations of the medallions.
