Daniel Edwin Wilson (born July 19th, 1956) is a retired U. S. Navy SEAL/Healthcare Facility Planner and entrepreneur enjoying life with his bride Robin between his 1850 stone farmhouse in Fairfield, Pennsylvania and his yacht docked at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida. Dan’s current endeavors are focused on writing and has recently published his 4th book, A.S.K. for Purpose.   

Early Life and Education

Wilson was born in Long Beach, CA. During his teen years, he moved with his family to San Jose, CA, where he attended Silver Creek HS. He began his Junior year with a move to Waldron, Arkansas to live with his maternal grandparents. It was there that he was intrigued with a visiting Navy Recruiter who spoke of a “secret” group of warriors called the “SEALS”. After 6 months in Arkansas and disillusioned in school, he returned to San Jose. Although he excelled in Physical Education and sports, the 16 year old Wilson approached the local Recruiter and enlisted in the U.S. Navy less than a month after his 17th birthday after scoring a 96% score on the General Educational Development Test. He sent his GED Test results to Silver Creek HS and was awarded his HS diploma. With his diploma in hand, he was encouraged to attempt the CLEP college basic battery and other CLEP tests and scored well enough to nearly complete the requirements for an Associates Degree. Over the next decade as his Naval career and growing family would allow, he went on to complete his Bachelors Degree from Columbia College, MO.

Early U.S. Navy

Wilson began his military career in 1973 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended Basic Training at the Naval Training Center San Diego in San Diego, CA. Initially electing to forgo advanced training and plan to attend SEAL Training, Wilson was assigned to the USNS Kawishiwi (T-AO-146) as a Boatswains Mate serving under one of his most admired military leaders CAPT John Nicholson during the evacuation of Vietnam. After 2 years of shipboard service where he also participated in the Navy’s first outrigger canoe club, Wilson was sent to San Diego for Hospital Corpsman basic training. Upon graduation he was assigned to the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton MCB. After having completed his service commitment, Wilson became disillusioned with the Navy. He was prompted to move to the state of Washington and found work in various industries that helped him realize that his challenges with supervision was the result of his own misunderstanding of leadership.

Navy SEAL Training and Assignments

In 1978, Wilson returned to the Camp Pendleton area and heard that his best friend had been accepted for United States Navy SEAL selection and training in Coronado. Wilson approached a local Navy recruiter with the explicit intent to earn a spot for an upcoming SEAL Training class. He re-enlisted and was scheduled as one of the 52 sailors to participate in BUD/S Class 102 starting that October. With 4 other original classmates that made it to graduation 6 months later in March 1979, Wilson attended Jump School at NAS Lakehurst and was then assigned to Underwater Demolition Team 12. After serving with UDT-12, Wilson was assigned to the NMCL Seattle as the regional Recompression Operator. It was there that he finished his Bachelors Degree and returned to Coronado to join SEAL Team-5.  Areas of operations during these times included nations and lands in and around the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Navy Hospital Administrator

While assigned to SEAL Team-5, Wilson was commissioned as an Ensign in the Hospital Administration Services and traveled to Newport RI for Officer Indoctrination Training. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay with a follow-on duty assignment to Naval Dental Center Norfolk VA as Facilities/Supply Manager. During tenure at NDC Norfolk, Wilson was selected to become a Health Facilities Planner and was assigned to attend FMMTC. Upon completion, he then served the southeast US and South America with military construction initiatives focusing on the short-lived Home Porting initiatives at Mobile, AL, Pascagoula, MS, and Ingleside, TX. With this successful assignment, as a Lieutenant (03E), Wilson was called on to fill the Commander (05) position at the Navy’s Bureau of Management (BUMED) working for the Navy’s Surgeon General in DC as the Head of Health Facilities Planning. There he was awarded the Navy’s Meritorious Service Medal for services rendered on facilities planning and programming and for outstanding assistance with BRAC’s III and IV.

Defense Medical Logistics Service Support (DMLSS)

Upon retirement of 22 years with the Navy in 1996, Wilson was contracted to provide an additional 19 years of service as the Navy’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop and implement the DoD-wide Facilities Management (DMLLS-FM) software application to manage the $34Billion health facilities inventory within the Defense Health Agency (DHA). Wilson is credited with establishing the first dynamic CAD link and a DoD-wide asset management software application, the precursor of Building Information Modeling (BIM) within DoD Healthcare.

A primary focus during his tenure with the DHA Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) development and implementation was to establish a standardize Health Facilities Planning and management program throughout the service, which was formally realized in September 6, 2018 (DHA-TM 4165.01-M-V44). Working with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Wilson provided direct assistance to NAVFAC in selecting a standard CAFM application by defining a data interface between the NAVFAC Computer Facilities Management System CAFM application of Maximo®, with the DMLSS-FM application.

Wilson began his writing career in 2012 with his first published fiction novel, Shepherds Sword, written as a result of a national homeschool writing challenge.

A.S.K. Series

The A.S.K. Force - With years of sharing the promise of Matthew 7:7 and Luke 11:9 at various Men’s organizations, Wilson wrote and self-published The A.S.K. Force. In this easy read, Wilson shares stories of his Navy career, particularly the training at BUD/S and years with the UDT/SEAL Teams, as examples of personally implementing the A.S.K. Force.

A.S.K. America - Although not an intended sequel to The A.S.K. Force, Wilson felt that the immoral character of the United States of America necessitated a simple outline of the nation’s deviance from the U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution. A.S.K. America is formatted around the concept of the four cornerstones of the Declaration, “Creator, Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness” proposing that President Abraham Lincoln’s prophesy in the Lyceum Address, “As a nation of freemen we must live through all time or die by suicide” may come true.

A.S.K. for Purpose - Wilson’s 2018 publication through Azure Sol Publishing was written as a step-by-step process for “Finding the World’s Greatest Treasure”. The book intertwines the A.S.K. process with mapping and pursuing the reader’s Purpose(s). Wilson includes limited stories of SEAL tasks but tends to focus the narrative around a shipboard search for treasure.

Business

Wilson has initiated various business entities through the years including Eagle View Services, LLC, Coffea DaVinci (a coffee house in New Oxford, PA), Lake Meade Marina Services LLC (serving homeowners at Lake Meade, East Berlin, PA), Azure Sol, LLC of Delaware (Retail sales of resort wear) and Azure Sol Publishing of Pennsylvania.

Politics

Wilson has been an active member in the Republican Party of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Adams County Republican Committee and was elected to the PA State Republican Committee in 2012 serving until 2016. Wilson will boldly state that though the United States is a Republic, he is a “Christian Constitutionalist” first and does not fully endorse a specific party affiliation. Wilson’s wife, Robin, also acted as the Campaign Manager for Pennsylvania Representative Will F Tallman, who served the 193rd District 2009-2018.
