Justin Matthew Wyatt
Early Life and Education
Justin Matthew Wyatt was born on July 5, 1985, in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He graduated from Zanesville High School in 2003, where he played football. Wyatt went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from American Baptist College in 2008 and later completed a Master of Divinity from the Interdenominational Theological Center in 2013. Wyatt also holds a Master of Sacred Theology from Trinity Lutheran Seminary.
Career
Wyatt is currently the chaplain and director of Spiritual Life at Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber in Columbus, Ohio. He also serves as the youth pastor at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Zanesville, Ohio, and is the Praise and Worship Leader at the same church. Wyatt has been involved in music ministry, performing with Gospel artists such as Kierra Sheard and Jonathan Nelson, and singing background vocals for the Contemporary Christian band, Unfinished. Additionally, he sings for the group Gregory Watkins and the Praise and Worship Chorale.
Political Involvement
Wyatt is an active member of the Ohio Democratic Executive Committee and the Ohio Democratic Central Committee, representing the 3rd Ward. He is also the Vice President of Membership for the Muskingum County Young Democrats. Wyatt is running for County Commissioner in Muskingum County, Ohio, in the 2024 election. His platform centers on community engagement, healthcare accessibility, affordable housing, education, and youth programs, among other key issues.
Social Advocacy
Wyatt has a long-standing passion for racial reconciliation and giving a voice to marginalized communities, particularly in the African American community. His church work includes efforts to foster open dialogue on race and promote repentance, forgiveness, and healing. He is also writing a book on racial reconciliation for churchgoers struggling with race relations.
Endorsements and Campaigns
Wyatt has received endorsements from the Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund, the Muskingum County Democratic Party, the Muskingum County Women’s Democratic Club, and the Muskingum County Young Democrats. He is also a strong supporter of the ‘Vote Yes’ campaign on November Issue 1 for fair maps and districts in Ohio.
Personal Life
Wyatt is passionate about music and has led several music sessions at church and spiritual retreats, integrating traditional spirituals, hymns, and contemporary worship songs. He sings for Gregory Watkins and the Praise and Worship Chorale, in addition to his other music ministry roles.
