Plot
[edit]Dieguillo Colon, the Taino Indian also known as "Guaiken" from his "ni-taino" relatives and friends, writes a journal based on the conquest of the Carribean islands by the Castilians (also known as the Spaniards ). As directed by the Spanish friar, Bartolome de Las Casas, Dieguillo is set to write about his own story from the day Chrisopher Columbus and his crew landed on the islands of America on October 12th, 1492 - May 5th, 1539, followed by a letter from Las Casas on May 20, 1543. Throughout many years of interaction between the Indigenous people of the Carribean and the Castillians, Dieguilo records about all the atrocities commited by the Spaniards, so Bartolome de Las Casas can make an appeal to the Spanish Court in Spain to bring peace and justice for the Indians. In addition, Dieguillo writes about all his great experiences with his travel to Spain after the first voyage of Columbus and becomes friends with Castillians who have sympathy. Also, Dieguillo writes about his memories in a non-chronological orders to help himself remember all great, horrific, and spiritual memories during the Spanish invasion and conquest.[3]
