ICT RESOURCE OF CONCEPCION PRIMARY CARE FACILITY (Deficiencies and Solutions)
The Municipality of Concepcion, Iloilo, is a vibrant community with 25 barangays and renowned for its tourist destinations. Despite its charm, Concepcion faces significant challenges in providing quality healthcare, particularly in its Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA). These areas suffer from limited access to electricity, unreliable internet connectivity, and outdated ICT infrastructure. As a result, the local primary care facility, the Rural Health Unit (RHU), faces numerous difficulties in delivering efficient healthcare services, particularly in areas such as telemedicine, electronic health records (EHR), and patient management.
One of the most pressing issues is limited internet access. While some areas in Concepcion have connectivity, many still struggle with poor bandwidth, hindering access to digital health services like telemedicine and real-time patient data. To address this, the local government, in collaboration with telecommunications companies, could work to improve connectivity through satellite-based broadband or mobile hotspots.
Another challenge is outdated equipment. The RHU often lacks modern medical devices and computers that integrate with health IT systems, making it difficult to implement systems like EHRs or telehealth services. Furthermore, telemedicine capabilities are limited. Many patients in rural areas must travel long distances to consult specialists, which can be both costly and time-consuming. By investing in affordable, user-friendly telemedicine platforms and partnering with larger hospitals for remote consultations, Concepcion can offer more accessible healthcare services, especially for those in remote areas.
