Bio
I am a student that is both enrolled in a community collage and high school,in hopes to graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associates degree. I live in the suburbs of one of the most vibrant city's of America, in hopes I can move there one day to pursue a career in what I love most. Art has always been something I've valued a lot in my life, I love every aspect of it from poetry to visual art and I aspire to pursue a career within the field.
Wikipedia is a resource in that within the past year I have developed a stronger relationship with. Along with my class promoting the site I have began to realize what an incredible resource it is, in which has a strong community of writers from different backgrounds and views that all come together to make one astounding article. I would enjoy gaining more knowledge on various painters of the 20th century through wikipedia, and also gain more knowledge on current events. I could definitely see myself end up taking the information I gain from wikipedia, and putting it forth a paper. I have obtained much new knowledge from this site within the short spanning time I have began to use the it, and I can't wait to learn more.
Article Critique
As surmised by the article I read, black helicopters are a relative symbol for the conspiracy theory of the military takeover on the United States forming during the 1990’s. I visited the black helicopter page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: unreliable citations, dated citations, and bias sources.
Based on the lack of reliable citations the entirety of the article theoretically could be proved irrelevant. A collective quantity of citations lacked any citation at all, and were marked as “needed citation.” The citations that were cited in the references, two went to a dead-end website, some went to irrelevant cites such as an article of the unfairness and inadequateness of refs in the NBA. The select number of sources that did have relevance to the topic had came from sites with blog like structure, which gave me the feeling that the individual writing on behalf of the topic was not well educated on black helicopters.
The sources are bias because they are all alleged proof or evidence supporting the black helicopters. However, the article does support both sides to an extent, the citations lack to display that. Which could lead to an irrelevant and nonfactual information pulled from amateur and strictly opinionated information transformed into facts presented.
In continuation with the failure of creditable citations, the irrelevant sources date as old as 1996, and the newest source was in 2013, nearly four years ago. This does effect the overall article, because the websites mostly pertain to that specific year. In correlation of the dated websites some have even been sold off to a different company making the source very irrelevant to the topic of black helicopters itself.
In conclusion, due to the lack of overall citation irrelevance, dated sources, and bias sources. I feel as that this article is inadequate and serves only as a mere injustice to Wikipedia. This page needs much work before it serves more people with insufficient and possible made up information.
