Welcome to my user page! If you are reading this you must have an interest in the history of football or baseball. If not then I can only assume that you are lost! Either way, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or contact me on Twitter at @The_M_Thomas if you wish.

Please note: Any ongoing project I may be undertaking is my own work, I am not affiliated with any employer in any way, paid or unpaid, though I am a Member of the Royal Historical Society. Therefore there is no conflict of interest regarding my editing of pages related to the subjects I have an interest in, as per the conflict of interest guideline.

About me

[edit]

I hail from the small town of South Kirkby in West Yorkshire, situated centrally to Wakefield, Pontefract, Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, Leeds and Sheffield, but with family ties to Canada and Germany. Education and employment have taken me as far afield as Africa and the Middle East but home will always be home (regardless of how often I tried to escape it in my youth). I began my higher education reading law before moving onto bioarchaeology then the archaeology of buildings and am an alumnus of Alcuin College, University of York. Hopefully one day I will find the time and money to attain that PhD...

I have years of work experience including within museums, archives, archaeology, libraries and so on, so naturally a combined interest in the history of baseball in Great Britain led me here...

About the project

[edit]

Much of the history of professional British baseball has been forgotten, become confused or never properly recorded by former custodians. The main aim of my project is to address this. As you would expect this research leads to many instances where information on the sport can be updated and referenced and new pages can be created here on Wikipedia, for the benefit of all users and not just fans of the sport in the United Kingdom. Due to this I have endeavoured to make it my mission to update pages on Wikipedia relating to the research. Naturally this is a time heavy process so please, please be patient.

If you spot a page I very recently edited please understand I may be in the process of making further edits to that page. If you disagree with my edit, believe a page should be deleted or do not like the style of my page layouts or any other concerns please let me know either on my talk page here or on the talk page of the article in question. This way disputes will be avoided and edit wars will not occur. Please understand that many writers and researchers of British baseball (both alive and dead) have invested heavily over years in the project and I myself am involved heavily in the associated Wikipedia pages of the sport.

Please consider that before making sweeping changes to the pages, such a consideration is always greatly appreciated. Protectionism is obviously not something I condone, but neither are edit wars. Please also be patient with me as I am still learning how to best edit Wikipedia! Thank you.
