This is in the Public Domain in the United States. While the work is copyrighted within parts of the United Kingdom by Letters Patent Crown copyright, this indefinite copyright protection does not extend to the United States beyond the provisions of Crown Copyright. These copyright protections are of very limited jurisdiction and only apply within the United Kingdom (even then, not even to all parts of the United Kingdom). The only area where these protections certainly apply are England itself.

For this image to be PD, it must fall into one or more of the following categories:

It is a photograph created by the United Kingdom Government taken prior to 1 June 1957; or
It is an engraving, photograph, or logo created by the United Kingdom Government and published more than 50 years ago; or
It is any other work created by the United Kingdom Government unassigned to a specific author published more than 50 years ago.
It is a literary work where Crown copyright is extended to a specific author and the current date is greater than 70 years past the author's death.
Other works where copyright is assigned to the Crown by an author and the normal term of protection for that particular type of work has since expired
