The Indian Police Pigeon Service provides carrier pigeon delivery of priority police messages in the state of Odisha, begun in 1946. In March 2002, it was announced that India's Police Pigeon Service messenger system in Odisha was to be retired, due to the expanded use of the Internet.[1]
It was slated for shutdown in 2023.[2][3]
As of mid-2024, there were still 150 pigeons in the service.[4]
