Article Evaluation

A friend of mine has recently introduced me to the trading card game Magic the Gathering. I decided to look into the article for Magic to find another article to review, and I found a short article about a company known as DCI (Duelist's Convocation International). I visited the DCI article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: dead links, out-of-date citations, and underrepresentation of the current state of the company.

The first issue with the article is the number of dead links in the sources. All of the dead links lead to wizards.com, which is still an active domain. It is used by Wizards of the Coast, which is where the dead links are supposed to lead. However, at some point, Wizards of the Coast removed these links from their site.

In line with the previous issue, out-of-date citations were in use. Because of the age of the article, some sources describing policies and facts about the company could be updated. For instance, the source cited on Planeswalker Points is from 2011, while Planeswalker Points were available until May of 2020.

Finally, the article poorly represents the current state of what was DCI. Although the company has been absorbed by other companies, its responsibilities and functions remain. Magic tournaments are still held officially, but the article does not state who is in charge of these. In fact, the article states that these events are still referred to as "DCI-sanctioned," but does not tell who organizes them in the absence of the DCI.

While the article is informative and helpful, it is in need of some updating. The links leading to webpages that no longer exist are a major issue. Certain citations should be updated as well, and the information in the article needs to be expanded upon. In all, this Wikipedia page is dated, but functional.
