[edit]About Me
[edit]I'm a community college student who lives in the state of Washington. Washington is the 42nd state to have been admitted into statehood[1]. My major is computer science and some of my main interests include snowboarding, reading, and music. I recently adopted a cat at the start of the new year, 2023. She has white fur and yellow eyes, her name is Aspen.
My Wikipedia Interests
[edit]Some of the subjects I hope to contribute to on Wikipedia include some of my interests, such as reading and music, but I would also like to discover new topics and hobbies through the limitless amount of information on this site.
Article Evaluation
[edit]Over the years, literature has played an important part in my life. In many stories, prominently in fiction, an important character is designated to be the protagonist, the person in which the story revolves around. I visited the protagonist article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: its examples in literature, the lack of description in various types of protagonists, and the quality of citations.
Examples
[edit]When going through this article, I noticed there were various examples of different protagonists listed throughout the article. I feel like most of the examples given in the article are not fully explored, choosing only to list the protagonist and failing to explain why they are the protagonist of their story. This is especially prominent in the “Types” section of the article.
Types
[edit]The protagonist article includes various examples of different types of protagonists and their places in literature. I find this is an extremely important point when discussing protagonists, however the article seems to not have much information regarding the different types of protagonists aside from a couple sentences and a few examples for each type. Additionally, the article fails to expand on what might be the reasoning for including these different types of protagonists in a story, instead choosing to only include the definition of them.
Citations
[edit]The quality of the citations in this article surprised me for the most part. With it being a smaller article, I originally assumed there would be a lack of quality in the citations, however the article is cited well for the most part. There does seem to be a lack of citations when it comes to defining different types of protagonists, including the antihero and tragic hero.
Conclusion
[edit]All in all, I would rate this article as “decent”. It gives solid examples of protagonists in literature, although it would take a bit of research finding out the article’s reasoning on describing them as a certain type of protagonist. When listing the types of protagonists, the article doesn’t do that great of a job exploring what truly defines a type of protagonist. Despite appearing to be a small article, the citations themselves are satisfactory, however some areas in the article would do well with some extra references.
