View article including text that has been deleted removed?

I'm wondering how to view an article and see all the text that has been added to it throughout its history. This view would include the current text as well as text that has been added and then deleted later. Yes, even the stupid vandalism text, I suppose.

I guess this would be similar to a multi-version diff that showed the adds from multiple edits. Instead, I theoretically could view each diff on an article's history page to see all the additions, but that would drive me and the WP servers nuts.

What sort of format are you looking for? Combining all diffs would be ridiculously long for any sizable page. What's your purpose? —Simetrical (talk • contribs) 05:38, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! Seeing the article including all the text that was ever added (or at least in some time period) would give a fuller picture of the WP community's knowledge about that topic. There are often varying legitimate opinions around what content is too trivial, controversial, or off-point to belong in an article. Some articles have a few "guardians" who are vigilant in removing information that they view as inappropriate. Being able to see all the content ever added would be great for pages where useful information has been removed. (Of course you'd also see the vandalism, but the text added in those cases is almost always short and easily ignored.) Or is there a way to see or download the history of an article, even if it is in some less-than-user-friendly format? Bob schwartz 17:47, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

There's no easy way to do this at present, at least that I know of. To get all history of all Wikipedia pages in XML format, you can go here; it's 7.6 GB compressed. Do with that what you like. (You could also file a feature request for an easier way to do this at Mediazilla:, but don't expect any devs to take up your task within your lifetime.  :)) —Simetrical (talk • contribs) 05:42, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

I think your best bet would be to ask at Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts (or someone with access to the m:toolserver (when it gets fixed, which may be a long time from now, sadly)) it sounds like something that should be feasible; just load all the revisions, and remove duplicate text (although, hm, I don't know of a well-known algorthim for that specfic task...) According to The Associate Collegiate Press web site, The Dartmouth was founded in 1799. That makes it 68 years older than The Transcript, which was founded in 1867.

According to the web sites, both the Harvard Crimson and Yale's Daily News are younger than The Transcript. Harvard's paper was founded in 1873 and Yale established the Daily News in 1878.

Dartmouth may have been established first but The Transcript can boast continuous publication since its founding in 1867.

Adding "continuous" and dropping "independent" from The Transcript’' banner can solve the issue. It would then read "The oldest continuously published student newspaper in the nation."

OWU Rankings from USN&WR

College guides such as Colleges That Change Lives, Barron's, Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report place Ohio Wesleyan among top U.S. liberal arts colleges.

OWU Gay-Friendliness

Is OWU's atmosphere any more gay-friendly than other colleges (e.g., Ohio 5's Oberlin, Wooster, or Denison, not to mention NYU, Georgetown, Wesleyan (CT), Macalester, Wellesley or Reed)?

The Advocate's college guide lists 100 top colleges for gays, 6 of which are in Ohio: Antioch, Bowling Green, Case, Oberlin, Ohio State, and Ohio University. At first glance it seems that the Advocate's list is based heavily on a checklist of administrative policies, organizations, etc., rather than the attitudes of the student body. Nevertheless, is the omission of OWU a mistake or is OWU just good-but-not-great in this area?

Freshman McCarton Ackerman, vice president of PRIDE, said events like this are important because gay issues sometimes seem to be ignored.

"[PRIDE] hasn't been as big a force in recent years as other clubs and houses that celebrate diversity," Ackerman said. "Hopefully this conference can open a lot of eyes and give PRIDE the same respect as the other clubs."

Camolli said she's been inspired to spread GLBT issues around campus because of firsthand experiences with ignorant students.

"For the most part, people try to stay open-minded, but they are really a long way from understanding what is faced by the GLBT community," Camolli said.

Ackerman said, "I think OWU is pretty open-minded for the most part when it comes to gay-related issues, but nobody really knows where to begin. Hopefully events like this will serve as a stepping stone to a sense of comfort and tolerance for everyone on campus."

Aug-30-2006: Yet another newly registered username appears to revert an OWU-Methodist info edit. Give me a break. Choosing the username "Chicomo" for a one-shot sockpuppet account to revert an edit that real user "Chiacomo" proposed. Instead of suppressing valid verifiable info about OWU's Methodist affiliation, why not add equally valid verifiable info about the secular orientation of the majority of its students? Registering one-shot accounts is sneaky, and seems to be just an attempt to hide your IP address from non-admins yet remain anonymous.
