Source
(not so well defined)這句話反映蔣仍沉緬在杜勒斯時代中美之間的崢嶸歲月,可是杜勒斯是冷戰時期美國反共最力的國務卿,他的時代早已一去不復返。

[edit]Stupid Sino-Japanese War movie
[edit]- Introduction: Okay, I just got this movie On the Mountain of Tai Hang (2005), made by the PRC army film studio, just in time for the 60th anniversary of the war. The trailer gave the impression that it must be a propaganda film, but at least it has big battle scenes and the phrase "KMT-CCP Cooperation." I thought that was a good sign, especially since the KMT made the historical visit to the mainland just this year. This movie couldn't be too bad, right? I couldn't have been more wrong. Gawd I was terribly disappointed, albeit in a very amused way. Let me break it down to a few components.
- Battle scenes: First of all, Saving Private Ryan this movie ain't. Let's forget about the politics, and just look at the battle scenes for a second here. The screenshots from the official site look good enough, with bellows of smoke and fire, and soldiers wearing accurate uniforms detailed with badges and correct weapons, like the 98k, Czech submachine guns, Stalhelms and the like. However, everything went down hill as the movie starts running. The battle scenes are ineptly shot and fake to the core. You see soldiers from both sides just running toward each other in a gigantic mess, like something straight out of World War I, or the American Civil War for that matter. The Japanese troops charge and charge until they are within ten feet of Chinese (communist) machine guns, only to be mowed down. I doubt in real history the Japanese were that stupid. They had artillery and mortars, and would most likely have used those weapons to clear out the Chinese before trying to charge to take over a trench. And this was before they had to use banzai charge against the Americans. Come on, a few Japanese soldiers could have just taken potshots at the Chinese defenders at that close range; however, not a lot of people bothered to actually use guns for the obvious purpose. In addition, all Chinese soldiers in the movie are Rambos, shooting from the hip and instantly downing a few Japanese, one shot one kill no less. Not a lot of soldiers I saw took cover behind sandbags and actually aim through the ironsight and fire carefully. It's just a lot of yelling, screaming, heroically sacrificed Chinese and good as dead Japanese. If the Japanese had used that kind of tactics in dealing with the 8th route army, China would have driven the them all the way back to Manchuria and pushed them right into the north china sea, no doubt. Very bad filmaking indeed. I doubt the studio even hired a military adviser. The directors didn't even have to hire military advisers, even. Anybody who has ever handled a rifle would tell you that the movie was full of bulllocks.
- Guerrilla warfare: The movie has an obvious CCP slant to it, thus of course it must include peasant-guerrillas, which were the mainstay of the CCP "behind enemy lines" operations. Again, the portrayal of these irregulars had me bolting with laughter. These peasants are super fighters in the movie. You see Japanese troops ambushed and just ran away from these people, who weren't even equipped with guns. That's right, they were not equipped with guns. Instead, the guerrillas had traditional Chinese spears and javelins, which they threw to impale Japs in the eyesocket, head, torso, and kill horses. One sequence had a guerrilla fighter impale one Japanese, then another, like they were two chicken nuggets on a roasting stick. You also see some Chinese soldiers wielding Chinese swords and cut through some Japanese formations. Of course, swords were used by the often under-armed Chinese (see the article on the Defense of the Great Wall for a photo), but they were nowhere as effective as portrayed in the movie. Again, had the Chinese been so spectacular as efficient killing machines and the Japanese as inept, the war could have been won in no time. I'm kinda surprised at the amount of illogical sequences that made through the cutting board.
- KMT/CCP "cooperation": There is little to no cooperation in the movie. The biggest KMT general who cooperated with the CCP was Yen Shi-shan, the head of the Yen Clique in the NRA. Of course he had legitimate grievances against Chiang's authority, so I'll let that slip by. Then there were two other important KMT officers, whose full names I couldn't come up with this instant; one is a condescending bastard, and the other a "yes-man" to CCP Zhu De's infinite wisdom. The Yes man is of course the good guy of the KMT, who says that everything Zhu De spouts is correct and agrees to come to terms with the CCP "leadership" in the war. The other KMT guy (surname Zhu also) is your typical conceited haughty bastard. He asks the guerrillas in a very sarcastic way, "which military academy did you graduate from?" The patriotic/naive/communist/totally wholesome guerrila answers "I didn't go to school, but I liked the stories of Yang-Jia-Jiang (an ancient Chinese family who fought the Mongols or the Jurchens, I believe)". The KMT bastard chuckles, but the other guerrilas wholeheartedly give smiles of approval. The KMT bastard then says what a sane person would ask in a situation like this, "if you're so great, then why the hell do we need an army". Defying all logic, the almighty Zhu De calls his men to bring out the loot from his previous battle, and graciously asks the KMT bastard to take whatever he needs. Watching this scene is like getting hammered in the head. I mean, what kind of nut would believe this kind of crap. The guerrilla should have answered, "we like to harrass the Japanese, but we lack the organization or the skills to take them head on, everything about CCP guerrillas beating the Japanese in open battle is a lie, especially the one in which we pierced multiple Japs with a single sharpened stick." Right on!
- CCP propaganda: It's propaganda, no shit about it. The movie takes place during 1938, and he says, "as we saw, open warfare led by the KMT has ended after the battle of wuhan. Now, the time of behind enemy lines operations led by the CCP has started!" I believe the filmmakers totally forgot about the numerous "open warfare" battles conducted by the KMT after 1938. How about the numerous campaigns, such as Changsha, Hubei, Gweichow, Ichigo, Changde and combat of all sorts by the KMT after Wuhan (check the warbox for a list)? Belitting the KMT contribution, which was far greater than the CCP's, just doesn't cut it with recorded history. Again, if the CCP's so-called "behind enemy lines" operations were so successful, how come they weren't able to beat the enemy back to Manchuria? The lies and lies by the CCP propaganda machine boggle the mind. Of course you got all these quotes by Zhu De praising Mao's tactics (like he had any) and sayings. Cringe-inducing factor: One million.
- Conclusion: This is a very, very, very bad movie. I wouldn't be so acerbic if the movie had not been made in the 2000s. I don't think the Chinese government (who sponsored the movie) has made any progress in recognizing history and stop making more lies. They did a crappy job to commemorate to the 60th anniversary of victory day by producing this piece of propaganda crap, when in reality almost all of the fighting was conducted by the KMT's NRA. But too bad, because winners get to write all history, and not a lot of people could have done anything about it. To me, the PRC's continuing lies and denial of history are the biggest disservice to the memories of those fallen in the war, even more so than some Japanese right-wingers' version of history. If there's one thing that's worse than a foreigner's lies, it's a compatriot's lies, and that's exactly what the Chinese government is propagating. To produce this movie about the inflated role of the CCP, when the KMT's NRA suffered millions of war dead and wounded and shouldered the burden of defeating Japan, the PRC has done great injustice to history. Good thing I downloaded this piece of shit.
white countess
[edit]a movie review about the White Countess (2005), with a nice reference in the end to the 1937 Shanghai battle and 800 heroes. These nihilistic foreigners were just chilling when 200,000 Chinese soldiers died in the battle.
