[edit]Taihu Wu dialects (太湖片) constitute approximately 65% of all Wu Chinese dialects. These dialects, in turn, are divided into several subgroups:
Piling 毗陵(Changzhou)
Su-Hu-Jia 蘇滬嘉 (Suzhou, Shanghai, and Jiaxing)
Tiaoxi 苕溪(Huzhou - often considered to be a subbranch of Su-Hu-Jia)
Hangzhou 杭州(Hangzhou)
Lingshao 臨紹(Ling'an and Shaoxing)
Yongjiang 甬江 or Mingzhou 明州(Ningbo and Zhoushan)
- Piling 毗陵小片 Total number of speakers is 8 million.
- Su-Hu-Jia 蘇滬嘉小片 Total number of speakers is 23.3 million.
- Tiaoxi 苕溪小片 Total number of speakers is 3 million.
- Hangzhou 杭州小片 Total number of speakers is 1.2 million.
