I began to be known as Blakk Jack Samm in high school, gambling at lunch time to survive poverty.
I was from the 'projects' with minimum funds from my father, who was working three jobs. It was a rough period in my life. Yet, I have had even tougher times since then trying to survive in this system.
The pleasure from gambling, led me to Reno, Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas in Nevada. yet, I had little success in New Orleans gambling on the Mississippi River. There was a time that I gambled in Calumet City in Chicago with the lady known as 'the Diamond'. It was a very good stay, I loved it. Around that time, I went back to Fort Myers, in Florida, on my way to Miami. I met up with a lady called NaSheryl, and never made it to Miami.
I have taken pictures from San Francisco to Florida, been cross country plenty of times.
Photography was one of my first loves, along with poetry.
Yet, I became a writer in college on my way to a Masters degree. Although, I have to tell you, I never thought that I would be a writer outside of the poetry. The passion for Photography will never leave me. As far back as 5 or 6 years old I began. It is one of the most fulfilling accomplishments. Nothing in the world has prepared me for the accomplishment felt from completing a book. It is also the most draining feeling in the world. There is a need for a vacation, sabbatical or rest. There is also the need to renew my creative juices. I have the outlines, for several more books that I am working on. Maybe, in a year or two I may finish another.
Prior, to beginning a new book, it is my hope to complete a book of poetry in maybe a year or so.
Right now, today and the days that follow I must promote and market my new book, WHEN WE WERE BLACK. It has social, historical, sociological, anthropological, political, poetic and personal significance for me. You might call it my bio-mythology in poetry/prose. I intend to distribute this book nationwide as well as worldwide.Blakk Jack Samm 01 02:15, 6 July 2016 (UTC) >>
