Overview

[edit]

Tabletop football or sectorball is the Hungarian version of the many tabletop games trying to imitate football. The object of the game is to push the ball in the opposite side's goal only by flicking or pushing your players. Traditionally it is played with buttons on a polished table, using a smaller button as the ball, medium-sized buttons as players and matchboxes or big buttons as goalkeepers. Nowadays it is mostly played with plastic figures specially designed for the game.

History

[edit]

The origins of this game can be traced back to the 1910's, to the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Although it never became popular outside this area, it is fairly well-known in the present countries of the Carpatian Basin. The first known public torunament was organized in 1930 and the first international championship was held in 1936 in Vienna.
