George dressed to the nines

Life Georges Lepape was a fashion illustrator from the 20th century. He made many illustrations from 1910-1933. He was born in Paris, France on June 26th 1887, and died February 15th, 1971 in Bonneval, France at the age of 83. His style is heavily influenced by Japanese prints, with flat areas and thin line work. His illustrations are heavily design orientated and influenced by the art deco movement at the time. His art has been featured on magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair. Lepape married as soon as his career launched. He married Gabrielle Lauzanne with which he had one daughter with. Sadly we do not know his daughters name, I believe it has been lost to time.

Career Lepape studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts at the age of eighteen. In 1910 he started his famous collaboration with artist and fashion designer Paul Poiret. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs or the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris held the first major exhibition of his art in 1920, and six years later he was invited by publisher Condé Nast to work in New York. While there, he produced iconic cover art for Vogue and Vanity Fair magazine. In 2016 he broke an auction record in New York with his work "Le Miroir", a watercolour and ink illustration on paper. He remained a very influential and important figure in the fashion and arts world until his death on February 15th, 1971.
