The project has been established to help the Fish Farmers of The District Jhang in The Province of Punjab Pakistan. It will serve both of the purpose first it conduct Fish breeding of Major and common carps and chines carps and .Fish seed will fulfil the need of Fish Farmers of the area and secondly it conduct breeding of Fish species which has been badly effected by pollution in river Chenab and River Jehlum by damaged spawning grounds. As per research and sampling conducted during year 2018-2021 by Fisheries Team Department of Fisheries Punjab under a development project it was found only 48 species sampled. out of Total 460 samples taken from research area of 220 km. Industrial waste, effluents from Faisalabad city effected Fish fauna and productivity of this water source .keeping in view this project completed for future better management and stock re replenishment.
PUBLIC WATERS STOCK REPLENISHMENT PLAN IN PUNJAB PAKISTAN
[edit]A- Reason to initiate the activities
Due to increased anthropoganic activities and man made infrastructures, Garages Sewerage and industrial effluents natural water bodies badly affected. Our river system totally based on flood system and flow of water is seasonal. During drought season due to water scarcity industrial water and sewerage drainage enters in fish spawning grounds in low lying areas of rivers & streams. It decreases fish potential of the water body and required stock replenishment.
B- Departmental arrangements to minimise the effect.
1- Artificial breeding of culture able species.
2- Artificial breeding of threatened species i.e catfishes through fish biodiversity Hatchery projects.
1-Department of fisheries Punjab, established fish hatcheries for breeding of culture able
Species in every District and Division level. Large number of fish seed produced every year for replenishment of natural bodies. Targets has been assigned to divisional level formations for the activity and feedback. Culture able species like Rohu, Mori, Thailia are commercial value species in market and due to continuous leasing of public waters over exploitation in fish catches, Potential of water bodies decreased, Hence to minimise the environmental effects, Human disturbances , and over fishing, stock replenishment activities has been initiated.
2-Artificial breeding of threatened as well as commercial value fish, initiated through special program of biodiversity conservation. Department of fisheries Punjab has established biodiversity hatcheries,Frist at Chashma Barrage District Mianwali, second at Trimmu Barrage District Jhang and Third is under development phase in District Okara.
C- Fish seed stocking for Biological control of dengue Mosquito larva.
Department of fisheries conducted research to sort out the suitable fish species for control of dengue mosquito larva in stagnant waters. The most useful species found are Tilapia, Puntius sophore, and Grass Carp. Department arranged artificial breeding for Tilapia fish at divisional hatcheries and assigned Targets to stock the Tilapia fish in suitable water bodies after survey and analysis of stagnant water to ensure the survival of fish in that water body.
Focal persons declared at District level to monitor the dengue survey teems and coordination with local health department and District administration the activity is most effective for biological control of Epidemic.[2]
