Tysiąc is a Polish trick-taking card game for two to four players, the aim of which is to be first to score at least 1000 points. The game is played with a 24-card, French-suited pack ranking from 9 (low) to Ace (high). Melds of a King-Queen pair attract bonus points depending on the suit. [1].

Deal

[edit]

Tysiac is played with a shortened pack of 24 French-suited cards, typically of the Vienna pattern and ranking from 9 (low) to Ace (high). The dealer shuffles and offers the cards to the player on the right for cutting. The dealer then deals the cards clockwise; the number per player varying depends on the number participating. Each player picks up his cards so that the others cannot see them. When the hand is finished, the player to the left of the dealer becomes the next dealer. Thorough shuffling is important due to the importance of card distribution for melds.

When dealing the cards to the players, the dealer sets aside 3 cards to form the talon (or 2 cards in a 2-player game). The dealer has the right to choose which cards will go to talon. To do this, instead of dealing a card to a player, he lays a card to the talon and continues to deal with the next card. The dealer cannot lay the first or last cards of the pack to the talon due to the possibility of seeing those cards during the shuffle nor may two consecutive cards be laid away to the talon.
