Benny is a nick name given to Falkland Islanders after 1982 by British Troops, it refers to the Benny Hawkins character from the UK TV series CrossRoads who wore what became known in the Falklands as a Benny Hat, i.e. a Woolly hat, either with or without bobble! He was rather slow witted so some Islanders took offence.
