A glissette is a curve traced out by a point that is carried by a curve which is made to slide between given points or given curves.

Ellipse

An animation showing how an ellipse is traced out by a point on a segment that slides along two perpendicular lines. A basic example is that of a line segment of which the endpoints slide along two perpendicular lines. The glissette of any point on the line forms an ellipse.[1]
