Dr. Victoria Coffey had a hugely successful career , she achieved a huge amount however it would appear she does not get a huge amount of credit for all the work she completed. Dr. Victoria was one of the first female paediatricians in Ireland which is very admirable as she would have had to work very hard to earn this position, especially being the first female. Victoria then went on to become the first women president of the Irish Paediatric Association which again shows her success as a female throughout her career. She was also president for two years for the Biological Society in the Royal College of Surgeons[1] and President of the college Graduate Association[2]. Not only was she president of the Royal College of Surgeons but this is also where she qualified from in 1936. Dr. Victoria’s main achievement and what she would be most known for would be her success in the investigation to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome[3] in Ireland, which she worked very hard for and researched a lot . This was one of Victoria’s main cases that she studied and which she achieved a lot from and is well known for it as she was one of the first females to look into it . Dr . Victoria also went on again to be one of the first Irish doctors to investigate metabolic disorders in new borns[4], another successful achievement for her career and more research . In 1943 Victoria had another great achievement and was appointed as medical officer to St. James's hospital. Not only did Victoria achieve all of the above , she then conducted vital research into the effects of the Thalidomide drug on women and their children, Victoria researched a lot into this and is also well known for this research. Victoria Coffey had an outstanding career and achieved a huge amount, she put a lot of effort into her work and career and was very dedicated and worked extremely hard. This effort does not go unnoticed and is shown in a study conducted on behalf of the medical research council and the department of health into the effect of Thalidomide in the republic. Victoria is a very admirable women as it would appear she put a huge amount of time and effort into her career and her research , she worked very hard overall in her career showing dedication and perseverance, an honourable women overall.
