Rosalynn McGinnis
[edit]Rosalynn McGinnis is a 33-year-old who was kidnapped at age 11 and she was captived for 19 years by her stepfather: Henri Piette. McGinnis has 9 children whom Piette is the father of. In June 2016, McGinnis managed to flee, with eight of her nine children, from a remote village in Mexico where she had been raped, beaten and tortured since she was reported missing on Jan. 31, 1997, when she was 12 years old and in the sixth grade. That’s the day, she says, Piette abducted her.
The kidnapping
[edit]Piette snatched McGinnis after marrying her in the back of a van at age 11. Piette even gave her a ring after performing a twisted "marriage ceremony" just months before she was snatched, according to the court papers laying out her allegations. McGinnis was reportedly taken by her stepfather after she was abducted. McGinnis’s mother later left Piette because of his violent behaviour and lived with her daughter in protective accommodation. Her mother fled with her to a woman's shelter. then tried to convince the girl she was his wife.
They began traveling to several locations throughout the United States and abroad. McGinnis lived under Piette's control in an outlying village in Mexico. In Mexico she was living in servitude for years, she was beaten with baseball bats, being chocked unconscious and repeatedly raped. McGinnis was sexually assaulted multiple times a day, almost every day while she was with Piette. While living under Piette's control McGinnis got pregnant nine times and Piette caused that. So the father of the children is the rapist of their mother.
The escape
[edit]It was only when a woman who lived near her home in Mexico, brought a cake for the nine children, that she finally revealed something was wrong. Piette was not at home that time. The woman found the missing poster online and contacted the authorities. Until McGinnis fell ill and she needed surgery on her gallbladder, Piette forced her to continue her strenuous regime of chorses - while she convinced herself that she needed to escape. She grabbed the little money that she had earned, called a taxi and took eight children with her. McGinnis and her 8 children went to Oaxaca City in Mexico, the eldest had run away from home before the escape, but they have since been reunited. In Oaxaca City, she made a call with the National Centre of Missing & Exploited Children, they told her to go to the embassy of the United States. She was so happy to finally tell somebody the truth. McGinnis told People Magazine that if she didn't get out of there, she would either go insane or she would end up dying and leaving all of her 9 children with that man.
Their lives now
[edit]McGinnis
[edit]For the first time in nearly twenty years, Rosalynn McGinnis is thinking about a future that doesn’t include Henri Piette, her former stepfather and the man she says allegedly held her captive for 19 years. McGinnis, now 33-years-old, is now living in an undisclosed location in the Midwest with her nine children, ages 2 to 17. McGinnis says they’re being treated for post-traumatic stress disorder after suffering for years from abuse.McGinnis has only recently told her kids that their father was her rapist and abductor, and it’s a horrific truth they are trying to find a way to deal with. “It’s hard to describe when you’ve been through so much trauma in your life, especially when the man who did this to you is not caught,” she says. “You’re always looking over your shoulder thinking that he’s going to show up and take you again.”
Piette
[edit]Henri Michele Piette, 62, has been charged with first-degree rape and other offences by authorities in Oklahoma after Rosalynn McGinnis, now 33, made her way to the embassy of the United States in Mexico. Piette, who the FBI claims "has deep ties to criminal organisations in Mexico" was then tracked down. arrested and extradited. Piette still tries to convince the court that 99% are lies of what McGinnis has told them, but he made it anyway to jail.
