Bearcat53 is the user page of Barry Hoch of Kitchener, Ontario. He holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Waterloo (1977) and graduated from Conestoga College with a Diploma in Print Journalism in 1978. Barry worked as a reporter, photographer, and editor for nearly a decade with several newspapers in Ontario. He was Managing Editor of the Cobourg Daily Star from 1983 to 1986 before moving into corporate communications with The Mutual Group, formerly Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada, until 1995. Barry retired on Dec. 31, 2021, after nearly 20 years as Assistant Trainer with the Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club of the Ontario Hockey League. He worked for several newspapers during his journalism career: Perth Advance weekly (Reporter/Photographer); Arnprior Chronicle weekly (Reporter/Photographer); Western Ontario Business bi-weekly (Staff Writer); Port Hope Evening Guide (Editor); and Cobourg Daily Star (Managing Editor). Barry was a freelance contributor to the Ottawa Journal and Western Ontario Farmer.
