Biography
[edit]Brian Bernard is a Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario native that has held various roles in the technology sector, including Analyst, Designer, and Network Administrator positions. He was born in Canada on December 16, 1975, however he is of Guyanese descent, as both of his parents were born in Guyana. Brian is a husband and a father to five daughters, and enjoys spending time with his family. He is active in his local community and in the school system, and has consulted with various entities on issues of gender equity, school safety and social justice.
Education and Career
[edit]Brian began his information technology studies before the age of twenty, eventually earning multiple awards and certifications. He is a trained network and server specialist that is proficient working with a variety of operating systems, hardware and software. Brian is also an experienced software developer, and has written a series of apps and utilities, in over a dozen programming languages.
In September 2001, Brian was inspired to work for BlackBerry Limited, then Research In Motion, after the tragedies related to the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. During this time, it was widely reported that BlackBerry’s devices and network technology were the only reliable means of communication for those seeking help or trying to locate loved ones that were believed to be in close proximity to the affected areas[1]. Since joining BlackBerry Limited in March of 2002, he has held various technical roles and a variety of experience-led positions. He is a highly qualified and skilled technology authority that specializes in advanced problem-solving, hardware/software debugging and software development, and code-level diagnosis of difficult technical issues for BlackBerry's most demanding customers, employees and partners. In his current role of Distinguished Support Solutions Owner, he functions as a Subject Matter Expert, in various fields of business and technology. As an influencer and thought leader, he often leverages his specialized technical skills, coupled with his proven business acumen, to drive key initiatives/projects, debug hardware/software and networks, create apps/tools, deliver training and develop improvements to BlackBerry products, services, systems and infrastructure.
