Mairia Cahill (1981), was born in West Belfast into a republican family. Her great uncle Joe Cahill was a former Chief of Staff of the IRA.

Cahill is a former National Secretary of Ogra Shinn Féin, and worked for Sinn Fein from 1998 - 2001.

In 2010, she gave an interview to the Sunday Tribune in which she went public of her claims of being abused as a teenager, and subjected to an IRA investigation and cover up. She made a criminal complaint, but the case collapsed in 2014.

In 2014, BBC Spotlight NI broadcast an interview in depth into her treatment by the IRA.
