A life sketch of Pullan Sadhu
Thiru Pullan Sadhu was born on 14-Jan-1936 at Panayappatty Village in Pudukottai District of Tamil Nadu. His father Pullan Ambalam was a former and his mother Ramayee Ammal was a pious housewife. He studied up to third class. He helped his father in agricultural works from the boyhood, and he entered in spiritual and religious activities. Though he was born in non-vegetarian family, he was totally refrained from eating this food and strictly stick on vegetarian food due to his intense and deep faith in spiritual prayer and meditations. He liked isolation and went inside the forest for peace and meditation.
His parents did not like the activates of Pullan Sadhu. So they wanted to change his characteristics by arranging marriage of his close relative by name Andichi Ammal, native of Pairavan Patty. During the period of 20 years of his married life four children were born to him. Though he was in the family life his mind was fully occupied in search of truth and meditation. Worldly affairs like traditional and mundane religious customs did not attract him and threw away such superstitious faiths. Hence he made up his mind to renounce family life and entered the life of Sanyasi.
Turning Point in the life of Pullan Sadhu
He met a holy man like a beggar with Thiruvodu in his hand. He told him “ Why did he do all the domestic works. Are they allotted to you?. Give up all those domestic affairs and realize the cause of your birth that will lead to enlightment and attainment of Jothi”. After telling these words the holy man disappeared. These words touched his heart. It was reverberating his mind and sole. Then Pullan Sadhu determined to become Sanyasi. It was also informed to wife and children at once.
Pullan Sadhu met a witchcraft near Manaparai who clearly directed him not to enter the field of Mandiram because it is the field of many social evils and impure acts. Tapam is the only way for attaining Jothi which comes to you automatically. You need not go anywhere in search of Gyanam (wisdom). The secret of your birth is for doing Tapam only.
Life of Tapam:- Pullan Sadhu wished to wear holy dress of Kaavi because if represents purity of mind and equality of one and all. He purchased these dress at Singampunari, the land of blessings of Siddhar Muthuvadugar and handed over the dress to Chinnan Suvamigal at Vellimalai. He first wore the dress to idol of Murugan and then handed over the dress to Pullan Sadhu for wearing till his life. He also blessed our Sadhu and preached the significant of Kaavi dress and attainment of Gyanam (wisdom)
With the blessings of Siddhars and Lord Murugan, he went to Oduvanpatty hill and reached Kunnakkal cave and did Tapam for continues six months without food and water. His body reduced thin and bony. He lost his senses and thinking process and always in a static stage of oneness direct with almighty.
Jothy Darshan:- The so called Maya Sakthi, a vibrant powerful force disturbed his Tapam by making strong wind and sound and the entire place was covered with thorn, dried leaves and debris to the height of the sadhu. After six months he came to his sense and realized that he found nothing and with great disappointment he claimed down from the cave. Within few minutes, he saw a unique group of atoms (ie Anukkal) emerged from the cave where Sadhu was doing Tapam. It moved towards him and showed a vision like a great lamp. It was thrilling experience and felt that something almighty entered into his body and soul. From the time onwards he lost his human bondage of a bit of relation with wife and children and worldly affairs. He became a living Saint and embodiment of knowledge. With purified thinking, mind and sole, he came back to his native place. He dig a Pit at Aiyeramvilakku Pillaiyar Temple and did Tapam inside the Pit for days together. He lived a simple and model life and Tapam was major part of his life.
Some important miracles of Pullan Sadhu:-
Chinnayha, the brother of our Sadhu saw the body of our Sadhu was divided into two figures. After some minutes the two figures joined together. It was exhibited to his brother because he did not believe in his spiritual powers. This miracle is called Kanda Yogam.
There was an unexpected crowd in the Kumbabhisekam at Aieramvilku Pillaiyar Temple. The free meals prepared already was insufficient. Knowing this fact, Pullan Sadhu went into the hidden place and did something. The meals was coming out from the vessels till the last person eat well.
From the time of Sanyasi, he eat only roasted groundnut. While eating it, one of his friends told that life is lost with roasted items. But our Sadhu proved that life is existed inside the roasted items by sowing the roasted nets in the field and emerging the germs on the nuts after five days.
During the life time of Pullan Sadhu, he observed total silence on the top of the Edarivilundan Malai where he met a flying yogi. The yogi appreciated the fasting and Tapam of Pullan Sadhu. He asked “what do you want?” our Sadhu replied that all the requirments are within the body. You need not give anything. Then the Yogi got the blessings of our Sadhu and disappeared. This incident proved the fact that a man can attain all his requirement through Tapam. Further he says that there are so many glands and by activating a particular gland, particular requirement can be satisfied.
In Andaman, witchcraft wanted to test the spiritual powers of our Sadhu. By misusing his evil powers on Dogs, the Dogs in that area run with barking towards Pullan Sadhu for biting. But when the dogs approached him they did not bite, instead they kneeled down and worshipped. The witchcraft realized his folly and got the blessings of our Sadhu. In another time at his native place, he showed a Palmira tree turned and bent towards him. On seeing this miracle the witchcraft accepted his failure and got apology from our Sadhu.
One of his friends (Chettiar) asked our Sadhu “Can you bring rain in the hot summer ie now”. Our Sadhu did prayer and after some time slight rain that is drizzling happened in the muttam that is central opening of the house where Sadhu was sitting. As he was giving importance only to Tapam and its related guidance, miracles were not mentioned much. Only very few are mentioned above.

Technique of worships and Tapam
Pullan Sadhu pointed out that early morning and evening after 6 PM are the proper time for meditation which must be regular and continuous process. First we worship our ancestors Mother, Father, Guru and any desired GODs. This type of worship leads to oneness of Sole with mind and breath depending upon the quality and quantity of worshiping practices. This is the best method of purifying mind and sole. It helps for sound health and emptying mind. If it is done with expectations or impure and confused mind, the desired results of happiness, sound mind and health can not be achieved. The pre conceived ideas already registered in the mind, the present ideas now influencing on the society and the personal life of an individual and the normal thinking process corrupt one’s mind and actions and these things are always screening in our mind even during sleeping. True Tapam makes the person to discard such illness of bad thinking and regulate them in a scientific method to attain knowledge and wisdom. Through this scientific method, the person has to find out whether he is living in the wisdom of knowledge or abode of hell. It is a mind regulating technique to discover something new different from routine life. While doing this mental process, many unwanted sufferings and hurdles created by Maya Sakthi might have been cropped up and these things should be neglected. The Maya force is an equivalent spiritual force to GOD and it lured one’s mind and sole by exhibiting miracles and name and fame in the society. The person doing real Tapam should not be lured by such Maya forces and try to come out in search of truth and wisdom. After realizing them he takes a new birth of life and he will not be moved by desires, thoughts and external style of life. Pullan Sadhu finds that a man dies because of his desires and actions of his unwanted physical needs. So he decides not to go by desires and thinkings. The life and body are alone destroyed after death and sole alone which is existence for ever till it merges with GOD. Life is a boat. It travels various stations and finally reaches its destination. Like a boat, life is travelled through various stages from birth to Jivan Mukti.
Origin of Sole: The origin of sole exists in the Anu Mandalam ( that is outer space of Earth) like Jothi. Due to gravitational force of earth, the sole is pulled down and enter inside the mind, sperm, blood and emerged as a child in the earth. Then the child develops desires from birth and as result of desires, five senses dance that will lead to end of life. Where as a person who controls his five senses travelled towards Jothi consisting of Anu (atom) gatherings. Such person will not take rebirth in the earth. He mingles with GOD. Such is the life a devotee. Further Pullan Sadhu writes “A Rishi is a fool, Gnani knows present, past and future and foretells happenings. Yogi looks himself. Whereas true devotee or Bhaktan merges with GOD. So people need not go elsewhere in search of GOD. He is within you. Both true devotees and GOD are same. GOD can be worshipped in any form either through idol or Jothi. It is better to worship Jothi, an eternal pleasure to the mind. Such a great saint or Yogi attained Jevan Mukthi on 21-May-1998 and his sole was transformed in the form of eternal light or Jothi which is now visible to staunch devotees. Annual celebration on jivan mukti day and Full Moon and New Moon day celebrations are also being held every month by the devotees of Pullan Sadhu.
