Puranas

Hi, thanks for the invite. I do have a question with might be up your alley. The puranas pages have a box with a link to the main article for the puranas and to the articles for the 18 mahapuranas. I'm not a Hindu, so I'm not qualified to judge, but my reading indicates there is dispute as to whether the Siva purana or (I think) the Vayu purana is one of the mahapuranas. Is there a way to add the Siva purana to the box?

Anton Balasingham

Thousands of Tamils in London and from overseas paid their last respect to Anton Balasingham, their one time hope for peace in their home land and the LTTE’s theoretician and chief negotiator at Alexandra Palace in north London[1][2][3].

Balasingham’s casket was placed at the front of the Palace’s Great Hall was escorted in by an honour guard, white gloved and dressed in black suits. After a brief initial ceremony, where hundreds of Tamil activists around the world participated by placing flower petals on Balasingham’s body, followed by a long line of families with children, youth and older Tamils and distinguished personalities internationally.

While paying respects, many wept openly, others prayed and some lifted their young children so they also could place petals. Community organizations from across the world have sent representatives and they placed dozens of wreaths and bouquets alongside the casket. While one said ‘Voice of the Nation’, the title bestowed on the LTTE theoretician by the movement, another said ‘Uncle’, the title by which many LTTE cadres used to address him affectionately.

Thousands of people from far away places arrived in several coaches and flights from Switzerland, France, Canada, US, Australia, Norway and Germany were waiting outside the venue on a freezing cold day and the queue snaked back from the Great Hall.

Balasingham was cremated shortly afterwards at a private ceremony leaving the people for whom he was fighting for by his intellectual wisdom.

About Bishnupriya Manipuri Language

Dear Bakasuprman, Bishnupriya Manipuri is an Indo-Aryan family language and on the other hand Methei is from a Tibeto-Burman family language. So it is obvious that Bishnupriya Manipuri language is close to any Indo Aryan language including Bangla, Assamese, and Sanskrit. From long time we lived with Metheis, we have adopt some Metheis words. We use Bangla writing system, and it is why Bishnupriya Manipuri language more look like Bangla/Bengali/Assamese, but Bishnupriya Manipuri grammar is so different then Bangla. He is one of the most well known historians from Karnataka. He is currently Director of Karnataka State gazzette and Director of Raja Ram Mohan Roy historical library in Calcutta. He won the "Sahitya academy award", 1973-Humanities for his work on "History of Karnataka". Said to have an RSS background, he is also responsible for editing History text books at an advanced level in education in Karnataka. Indian Diaspora - New Zealand

Hi,

In response to your query about what New Zealanders of Indian/Pakistani etc origin are commonly called, I think the most common one would be 'New Zealand Indians', even though that makes them sound a bit like they are the native population of New Zealand (like American Indians). It also doesn't acknowledge that many so-called 'Indians' actually originate from Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. This is a common New Zealandism; few New Zealanders would realise that 'Indian' is not necessarily a catch all term. On a side note, the term 'Asian' is almost never used in New Zealand to refer to Indians, and many New Zealanders would probably be suprised to learn that India is part of Asia. The term 'Asian' is used pretty much exclusively to describe East Asians, especially Chinese.

You know about the history of this article. I ran the influences section through JFD and he was ok with it, now for some reason Kenny is intent on vandalizing it again. Hello Baka, You are correct that ISKCON does not follow Ching-Thang Khomba, but you can be sure that Prabhupada strictly followed his guru, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura (the foremost Gaudiya Vaishnava acharya of his time) in whatever he taught to his disciples in regards to the teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. There are a number of groups in India who claim to follow Mahaprabhu who engage in all kinds of nonsense so it requires some scrutiny to tell one from the other. Some subtle differences in style between Gauidya groups based in Vrindavan (also following Bhaktisiddhanta) and ISKCON are largely as a result of practicality. Introducing something to people 'as new' on a worldwide basis is different than teaching something 'already familiar' within your family at home. Ys, Gouranga(UK) 09:56, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello Bakaman, - I'd happily place [Category:Vaishnava missionaries] on the appropriate pages if you could create a sub-section within Hinduism? Teachers in the Gaudiya line have generally not called themselves Hindu, seeing it as a sectarian label. Vaishnava says "servant of Vishnu" which is more accurate in these instances. The practices of the Gaudiya Math family tree (including ISKCON) are based primarily on the teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's main disciples, known as the Six Goswamis of Vrindavan who wrote a number of very detailed books giving instructions on the minute details of bhakti-yoga. These may seem very different to other traditions in Hindusim if not encountered before, but if you take a short trip to Mayapur or Vrindavan then you'll find whole villages and towns whose practices are based on this model. Missionary categories

I saw your comments on the missionary categories at WP:CFD. I hope you understand my motivation for the merge; all of the missionaries listed in Category:Missionaries in Asia and Category:Missionaries in Africa appeared to be Christian (and I even checked all of the Asian ones). However, I do understand your viewpoint.

Anyhow, I would like to ask if you could clean up Category:Missionaries, which currently looks mangled. Could you please try to reorganize the category (sorting people by religion, location of work, etc.) so that it makes sense? Thank you, Dr. Submillimeter 12:04, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

I looked at this link. It is an Affidavit filed by Hotte Paksha Rangaswamy during his election in 2004. It contains declarations on his assets and his affidavit stating that he does not have any criminal background. Hi Baka,

With all due respect in what language does Dravid mean south? If it is in Sanskrit, then south means Dahkshina not Dravid or Dravidian. Also, Dahkshina means south in Hindi and not Dravid or Dravidian. "Dravidian has a venerable history as a label, and given that in modern times it has been employed in Indian phenomena as diverse as language and temple architecture, literature and systems of land tenure, religion and race (ethnicity)." Furthermore the term Dravidian connotates to a family of related ethnicities and languages in and outside of India.

In regards to your above reply, I will let you first know that I am not here to advocate for any political group whether they be DMK, AIADMK, BJP, RSS, or what not. I am also not hear to advocate nationalism of any kind. What I am interested in is contributing information in regards to the Dravidian civilizations overall in encyclopediatic format covering all aspects from within India and outside of India.
