Jake Wood is the Cofounder and CEO of Team Rubicon [1], a nationwide nonprofit that provides military veterans with the opportunity to continue their service by responding to natural disasters and global crises. As a leading veteran advocate, Jake speaks around the country on issues facing returning veterans and is a member of numerous national committees on the topic. Jake is also the founder of POS REP, the first mobile, proximity-based social network designed exclusively for the veteran community.
Military Service
[edit]Prior to Team Rubicon, Jake served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, with deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan as a Scout Sniper. He received numerous awards in combat, and was the Honor Graduate of Recruit Training, The School of Infantry and Marine Scout Sniper Course.[2]
Education
[edit]Wood graduated from Pleasant Valley High School, Bettendorf, IA in 2001 and from the University of Wisconsin- Madison, where he played football, with a double major in Business and Political Science.
Awards and Honors
[edit]Wood's recent awards include Academic All B1G 10 two years;[3] the University of Wisconsin “Forward Under Forty” award [4]; the Big Ten Conference’s “Live Big” award [5]; GQ Magazine’s “Better Men, Better World” award [6]; and in 2012 was named a CNN Hero. [7]
